: Any tricks to get Predator pellets to shoot straight?
: wahoowad June 05, 2010, 02:05:46 PM
So far Predators have not worked in either .22 rifle I have owned. Some of you seem lucky enough to have a gun that shoots them straight. I hear of others like me where they just seem to scatter. They scattered in both guns I tried them in (Trail XL and FX Whisper). I would like to use them for varmints.

You know how shooters can be, finicky I'm just lucky that my shooters love them except for the Trail NP. One inch group's at 25yrds is not good enough for me but the Trail adores the FTS's Ed

One ragged hole at 30 yards in my Trail XL, but with my gas Whisper they are about 3 inch groups at 30 yards. Just luck of the draw I guess.

Curious....
Could a professional chop & choke on the stock barrel be of benefit in a situation like this?
(Win-win if one wanted to shorten the shooter a few inches too)

Not sure, it would be a gamble to cut the barrel and re-crown, chocke, etc.  No guarantees I would think.

None of my Springers shoot the Predators well.  The 350 .22 does ok with them, but the domed ones shoot a little more accurately so I use those.  They jam in my 850 .22 and in .177 they were just average with not the optimal groups I was looking for. Even my .22 PCP doesn't shoot great with the Preds.  I wish my guns liked the Preds so I had more pellet choice, and use all the tins of Preds I have but they don't.  Any pellet that your gun likes will be deadly to small game.  You should not have to chop up your gun and throw $ at it.  There should be domed pellets out there shooting accurately in your gun.  If none of them don't, then your gun needs a good tune with a fresh seal, and other parts, and if that doesn't work, I 'd have the barrel checked or replaced.
