Haven't had a Starling come in the back yard in close to a month. They fly over alot, they're on the front lawn (too public to shoot there) and they are in just about every other back yard I can see here in town..... but not mine !
This morning, one landed out beyond the feeder and was picking in the grass.
At 30 yards out, it was comfortable enough that I could open the back door, lean on the edge of the screen door and pop 'em. It dropped right in it's tracks. I went out to move it to where my clean-up Crows will find it and I noticed the Trail Xl powered Predator removed just about all of the far side of it's head on the way out.
My first head shot on a Starling ....... only problem was that I wasn't aiming at it's head ! :D
Anyway, the two Crows and their new fledgling had a nice lunch.

Nice shooting Paul! ( they are all over the city up here makes you want to do drive buys ;-) none in my area)

Good shooting Paul,,,, that pellet certainly did some damage :)
I have starlings landing in my backyard consistently lately, but they only do it when I'm involved in some activity and don't have a rifle with me. It's like they know :(
Anyway, good shot and a super pic buddy.

Paul, the same thing happened to me this am. I have a small flock in my front yard where I can't shoot and none in my back yard. However a short while later a crow landed behind my fence and I was able to sneak a pellet through the chain link and hit him in the center of the chest.

That's an awesome shot Paul! Nice pic too

Thanks guys.
Normally I would have thought it was a great shot, but I was aiming center mass as uaual. Either I twitched, or the Starling twitched. Anyway, glad I didn't miss all together and there's one less Starling.
We have no shortage off my property. You can't drive down any road without seeing at least one about every 150 - 200 yards. Here in town, everyone has them in their yards, trees, on roofs, power lines .. everywhere ! I was starting to get a bit insulted that they wouldn't come here anymore, then I realized, I must have done a decent job of "pest control".
Like the old saying goes, "Be careful what you wish for ...you just might get it !" :D

Nice head shot Paul! I can see now how accurate the Trail XL's is.
I have not been able to get a Starling yet this summer but I only have 1 couple that visits and is very cautious always hanging out at the edge of my property 50-60yds away.
