Hey Jeff how does the weight feel compared to a 48 do you know?
-
The RWS 54 is probably the finest springer, when tuned, there is. It's the gun I take along with a PCP. If I run out of air, I pick up the RWS. It's as close to the accuracy of a PCP you can get. It's a little heavier than a 48. Lee

A bunch or just a little?

I have one in .177 and love it , I sent it Gene's spa and massage shop last year and it came back smooth and happy:) Its was exactly like I asked for, powerful and long range accurate its shoots in high 800's into 900's with 8.2 to 10.5gr pellets do work best . I have chronyed a ton of pellets in it heavies and light ... the 7.2gr weights although consistent 1020 and even had some 7.0gr at 1070!!+/- fps way too light for this gun sounds like rimfire:) I use a Hawke Mappro on it, the 54 is a heavy beast that's for sure, so its more of a sit and shoot gun for me. Mine likes a good pistol grip grip and a light shoulder. The accuracy of the 54 is quite amazing and hard to match feels like a pcp to shoot.

How much heavier is it than a 48?

(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif)I love both of mine. Have a T01 .177cal and a T05 .22cal. Both as accurate as can be providing I do my part. Shot cycle is smooth and the recoil is subdued compared to other springers. They are not tuned but lubed by me with JM lubes. IMHO one of the best springers out there to buy. Shoot Safe and Enjoy.......Bill(http://../jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cool.gif)

Thanks Bill!

It seems to me that people are divided into those that like it and those that don't. Some have criticized it heavy wieght, it's plastic trigger blade and it's stock. The 54 is slightly less than the weight of a Beeman RX-2 (according to the data on Pyramyd website) The RX may balance better, but total weight is close. I really like mine and it is very accurate. If I do my part it will hold under 1 inch @ 50 yards with Gamo pellets! With JSB's it's usually less. It really shines from a rested postion, although one could use it in the field off hand. The recoilless nature of the rifle makes it virtually immune to hold sensitivity issues. I can rest mine against a soft or hard object, grip the stock tight or loose it don't matter, as long as I'm steady with the cross hairs. I had Ed K do a full tune/trigger job w/ a JM Monolith spring back in 05. My 54 would be one of the last airguns I'd part with.

I would say only a few ounces, not much heavier at all.
-
I have one in .22 and plan on adding a .177 even though I don't have room in my safe to put it. One of the very few, affordable, high power, recoilless (or semi recoilless) spring piston air rifles.
-
Thanks guys I pushed the button on one from PA!
-
You won't be sorry you bought one. I have one in .177 and one in .22. They would be some of the last I'd ever sell. Again, tuned they are very sweet and accurate. I didn't have mine very long before I tuned them so I really don't remember how they shot before the tune, but I sure know how they shoot now!! Lee

I used to own one that was bought new in .22. The only thing I personally liked about it was the accuracy. My complaints with it were:- Excessive barrel droop thereby requiring a Leapers scope rail adapter (+17.1" type)
- Because of the above issue and addedheight mycheek could not rest on the comb of the stock.
- HEAVY...and I mean HEAVY. This is a bench gun IMHO and not meant for hunting and carrying for long periods.
- Cocking the rifle can be hard as well. But I think this of all side cockers.
- Loud. Hope you have nice neighbors
- Muzzle brakes are hard to come by for this model
- They tend to be scope eaters...be careful what scope you purchase.
Again, the above is my opinion only.
-
What scope would you use on one? do you think a leapers would work?
-
Leapers should be fine. I use a Tech Force Scope on mine. It came with the TF89 combo. I don't care much for the rifle, but the scope is actually pretty nice. Been on the M54 for several months and hasn't missed a beat.

Why don't you care for the rifle?

I would get the one rated for high recoil and has the best warranty service...my first choice being Hawke. Although their optical quality on the Airmaxseries to me are not the best, their customer service is great. I love my Bushnell Legend 5-15X 40 AO but these are being phased out which is stupid. These scopes are wonderfully sharp and bright and rated for high recoil. Customer service I have never had to use so I can't comment on that part.
