: MEMORIAL DAY
: Big_Bill May 25, 2007, 02:41:53 PM

Hello All,

I just wanted to take this moment, to ask each of you to remember those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms..

It makes me angry when I hear the newsmen announce that Memorial Day is the opening of summer, forgetting the true meaning of this day.

Many people have fallen, men and women, so that you and I have the right to post on a forum, to own firearms, to choose the job we work at and so on. I just wanted to remind each of you, to say a small prayer, or think for a minute of all these great men, that stood tall, against all odds, to give usTHEIR DAY, MEMORIAL DAY ! A day to remember that we have FREEDOMS because others died to secure them for us. So remember your great grand parents, your grand parents, your parents, and perhaps even your brother or sister, that may have fallen to the enemies of freedom to protect our freedoms and continue THEIR DAY, MEMORIAL DAY ! JUST A DAY TO THANK THOSE THAT GAVE THEIR LIVES, SO THAT WE CAN LIVE OURS, WITH FREEDOM.

Hey Bil

Thanks for bringing Memorial Day Up... I bet if you ask a young person what does memorial day represent they would not have a clue. And especially most all the Libs who are taking our rights away.. Most of the younger generation think that Freedom was given to them. There is no respect and those are the ones who will say lets get out of Iraq and other places where we fight for freedom.. Even 911 did not open the younger generations eyes.. They would rather sit back and let the enemy come to us..
That is my view...:)

That's a good reminder Bill.  Gene, I share your view on todays younger folks.  I'm 37 but as a vet myself who works on an Army Post, I am reminded daily of sacrifices.  I review the names listed daily in my city newspaper.  It's my small way of paying tribute rather than just ignoring the cold hard facts and tossing it in the trash.  I also read the obituaries and read all the veterans' first, giving each one a silent thank you to myself.  I thank them in grocery stores and restaurants.  It warms the older vets' hearts to see some one younger like me
that knows what they served for.  I see it in their face when I shake his hand, or give her a hug.
The WWII and Korea vets were my childhood superheroes and always will be.
My grandpa served 3 1/2 years in Europe in the 347th Eng. Regiment as a Combat Engineer.

Ed, your talkin' my code.  I say drop me in low with water, MRE's, a SEAL dune buggy w/ GE Mini Gun and weekly supply drops!

Again, a big Memorial Day THANK YOU!

Today as I put up my new Flag, I became saddened with the thought of those who were left behind, those that paid the ultimate price, all those that fell before, and all those that died from injuries after their wars.

I wondered just how many U.S. Soldiers died to secure the freedoms we have today, and how many died after the wars, due to injuries sustained during the wars. I saluted my new flag for the first time, and saluted my old flag for the next to the last time, after I folded her up for the last time.

As I look around my neighborhood, I saw only three other American Flags Flying. I wonder if there families served, or died in any wars ? I wonder if any of them are worth *_*_*_*_*_* ! memorial days the first day of summer

I proceeded to look for those answers to the questions in my mind, and I found the following,

The American Revolution 1775-1783 4,435 Soldiers Died in Combat, out true Freedom Fighters !

The War of 1812 1812-1815 2,260 American Soldiers Died in Combat, Our Protectors of Freedom !

Franco Indian War 1817-1898 1,001 American Soldiers Died in Combat

Mexican American War 1846-18481,733 American Soldiers Died in Combat

Civil War 1861-1865214,938 American Soldiers Died in Combat

The Spanish American War 1898-1902385 American Soldiers Died In Combat

World War I 1917-1918 53,402 American Soldiers Died in Combat

World War II 1940-1945291,557 American Soldiers Died in Combat

The Korean War 1950-195333,741 American Soldiers Died in Combat

The Vietnam War 1964-1975 47,424 American Soldiers Died in Combat

The Gulf War 1990-1991147 American Soldiers Died in Combat

The Global War on Terror as of September 2006 2,333 Americans Died in Combat

These numbers do not include those that died from wound later, men left behind, and never found, or personnel that were killed or died outside of a combat zone.

Over 43,185,893 Soldiers Served in Combat in all of our Wars. There were 653,708 Combat Deaths among them, another 14,560 that Died in theater, and another 525,930 that died outside of the theater of war.

SO PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT, TO REMEMBER THOSE GREAT MEN, THAT DIDN'T WANT TO DIE, BUT DIEING WAS ASKED OF THEM, AND THEY STOOD TALL AND PAID THE ULTIMATE PRICE FOR FREEDOM !

GOD BLESS AMERICA AGAIN

I should've explained the dune buggy is for protection/mop-up and yes, the Boomer is for "Long Range Pest Control."

Folks,  I have to admit that I don't fly a flag at my house due to the fact that some neighborhood scum would rather steal than go buy their own.  It even happened right after 9/11!

Hay USNCop,

Join the N.R.A., put the little stickers on your cars and front and back door, plus I put another on my back door after I found scratches next to my lock:

TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOOT !

SURVIVORS WILL BE SHOT AGAIN !

Works for me !
