General Discussion To Gateway To Airguns => Airgun Gate => : July 04, 2006, 03:23:25 AM

I've had several Daisy 1000S and XS rifles pass through my hands lately and now have a 1000SB sitting here just aching for a review.
General observations:
Based on an initial inspection on might say that the 1000SB is identical to the 1000X and they would be right. The receiver, barrel, trigger group, and the rest remain unchanged in this newer version. It has the same recoil, same stiff trigger, and the same hollow plastic stock. The only external difference that I could find was the improved scope that is packaged with the gun.
Chrony results:
Right out of the box I fired 5 shots over the chrony expecting the gun to shoot supersonic and diesel badly, boy was I suprised. All 5 shots tripped the chrony at 850fps. which is down 50+fps from the last stock 1000S I had. I suspected this has more to do with a lack of lubrication than any changes in internals.
Tear-down:
Tear-down is the same on this rifle as it is for any 1000S or XS. Removed the stock, trigger group, spring guide, mainspring, tophat, barrel, and piston. As I suspected, all internals were dry with a few lucky parts getting a thin coat of oil. As expected, nothing internally has been changed from the 1000S.
The scope:
With the 1000S you get the Powerline 3-9x32 scope with no paralax adjustment. Not a bad little scope and it seems to withstand the recoil of this gun well enough but nothing to write home about. The 1000SB however, comes with a 4x32 scope with adjustable paralax. Gain one adjustment and lose another. The mounts are a vast improvement over those of the Powerline and require the use of the included allan wrench for removal.
Conclusion:
With a price premium of $30.00-$40.00 over the 1000S, I expected a bit more out of the 1000SB to be honest. Perhaps if the scope was fully adjustable I might have felt otherwise but this is not the case.

Chrony results are meaningless without knowing at least the weight of the pellet. The difference between something like a Beeman Laser and a Crosman Premier 10.5 could easily be on the order of 300fps. My own Daisy shoots Gamo Match at close to 1040, and CPH's at around 820.
So, what pellet did you use?

CPL's @ 7.9 grains.

You're right, that is low. That thing should have the capability to toss CPL's into the upper 900's at least.
I hope there's nothing wrong with the seal or the spring - Daisy won't sell those!
-
It is shooting CPL's @ 1025fps after tuning. It was so dry in there that the seal would squeek on cocking.
I've actually heard of the 1000SB velocity being a bit slower from another owner. Wonder if dry seals will be a regular issue with these.

Mine averages around 1010 with CPL's, so it looks like yours is nice'n healthy.
These thinks shouldn't be any more prone to dry seals than any other gun, but as I mentioned, Daisy doesn't sell replacements. So when the seal goes bad, that's it... and that's a fair motivation to keep everything lubed!
