: Pushed The Order Button on .22 CFX
: longislandhunter June 02, 2007, 03:48:59 PM
This may be the last post I ever make on GTA cause when my wife finds out I just ordered another airgun I may not be physically able to type ever again,,,, but,,,,, I was browsing on Pyramydair and saw that they have .22 cal CFX's back in stock for $219.95

It's a combo model that comes with a BSA 4x32 AO scope and rings,, I just couldn't pass it up :)

I realize the scope an the rings are not the best, and I would've rather ordered just the rifle, but the combo is the only .22 they have listed so I couldn't pass it up.  I love my .177 CFX so much that I just had to have the .22

Anyway, just wanted to share my excitement with ya's and also post that if you're interested in a .22 CFX you can get one currently at Pyramydair.

Very cool Jeff. I'm jealous, LOL.

I just got my .177 CFX 3 days ago and already love it. Gotta save my pennys for a .22 companion to go with her. I'm really glad the .22 is available again, hope it's not just a short term thing.

Let us know how it shoots.

Thanks Ed,,,, I'm really lookin forward to gettin the gun.  As for the 1250 .177,,,, that gun definately would be a game getter for sure.  My .22 1250 packs a heck of a whallop,,, the .177 with the correct pellets should be absolutely awesome.

Hey Jeff... The CFX .22 was never sold in the US before.. Hmmmmm, and I am surprised that they are even selling a .22 of any kind after there announcement last summer about no more .22 sold at all in the US agian..

If it is a .22, you will love it..:)

Yeah Gene, I'm really looking forward to getting it.  I really love my .177 CFX so when I saw that the .22 was available I jumped on it.  I always wanted a .22 but wasn't prepared to do the overseas ordering thing.  Before I hit the order button on Pyramydair I checked a number of large GAMO online retailers and Pyramydair is the only vendor selling the .22 version.  I'm wondering if perhaps Pyramydair just came into possession of a shipment or two, so I hit the order button immediately so I could get one and not take a chance on them selling out before I ordered it.  It would be great if GAMO does in fact start selling the .22's again in the USA, but just in case they don't I wanted to get my .22 CFX while I could.  :)

I'm jealous, Jeff, I wanted to do the same thing as soon as I heard Pyramyd had them, but the wife is already on the warpath re: airguns :-(!  I'm thinking a one off custom, though, do the gas ram thing again, and talk to Ed Canoles about an oring sealed piston cap.  That $200 rifle would be over $400 by the time I was done.  And then I'd still need to do something about a stock :-)!  Oh, well, I can only hope they last awhile.  Got a birthday coming up in 3 weeks, maybe I can sneak something in that way.  Later.

Well Dave,,,, my wife doesn't know yet so I haven't felt her wrath yet, BUT IT'S COMING !! But I want that rifle so bad I'm just gonna grit my teeth and take the full force  :)  My backup plan is to tell her about the rifle then hand her the cash to cover the charge.  I've managed to squirrel away enough cash to cover it but I was planning on spending that money on a Crosman Phantom so I'd rather not offer it up, but if I get beat up bad enough I guess I'll have to pay up :)

Hey Mike,,,,, actually I did manage to stash away enough cash to buy the .20 Goldfinger and a Crosman G-1 Extreme.  I'll be pushing the order button on the Goldfinger very soon but since I went and bought the CFX I'll guess I'll have to wait a bit now on the Extreme.  :(

Looks good Ken,,, what kind of FPS are you getting with it?  Also, is that the scope that came with it?  If so how has it worked for you?  And last but not least,,, what kind of pellets have you found performed the best?

Sorry for all the questions.  :)

Jeff, I haven't shot any, but PA has JSB Predator Ultrashocks on sale for $8. They look like a predator without the red tip, if they fly straight they would be nice. They look like they would exspand more than a reguler hollow point, because the hole is bigger. Might be worth a try.

: Pellets
: June 04, 2007, 12:10:26 PM
Mine prefers pellets with wide skirts, like rws superdomes, also rws superpoints, only shot it at 35 yards and its more accurate than me.

Havent chronied mine yet, but it seems to hit real hard.

There wasnt any scope on mine when I bought it, I put a Hawke eclipse 3-9x40 on mine, seems to work fine.
: RE: Pellets
: longislandhunter June 04, 2007, 12:15:02 PM
Thanks Ken,,,, I have a fair supply of .22 cal pellets, and 2 tins of superdomes are among them, so I'll give em a shot.  I ordered a tin of GAMO hunter pellets with the gun, I'm looking forward to giving them a try also.  I plan on doing my usual routine, which is to do grouping tests with every pellet type in my arsenal, so I should be able to find one or two that the gun prefers.

: not all pellets fit the breech
: June 04, 2007, 01:06:47 PM
I tried some of gamos Rockets in mine, they were too tight to load into the breech, had to use a probe to push it in.
Theyre the only pellet I cant use, but there probably others, the head of the rocket pellets seems to be bigger than most other pellets.

Just seems weird that gamo makes a pellet that cant be fired in their guns, guess ill have to use them in my HW80, it seems to shoot em fine inside 30 yards, and stick with RWS in the CFX.
: RE: not all pellets fit the breech
: longislandhunter June 04, 2007, 01:49:43 PM
I've found those rockets to be extremely accurate in almost all my guns.  I'll let you know if they wind up fitting in my new CFX.

We had this discussion not too long ago, I think Roald/Silo had an idea that the center of mass on those somehow keeps them flying balanced....makes sense to me.  Like a dart I guess?

Has anyone compared a CFX to an HW97? They seem similar in design, but the CFX is less than 1/2 the price, I believe.

One of my friends got a HW97, I think the accuracy is about the same, but the HW97 got a better trigger.
: Re: Pushed The Order Button on .22 CFX
: daved June 05, 2007, 01:20:07 AM
There's a little more to it than that :-)!  I had a CFX when I got my HW 77K.  By that time, my CFX was far from stock, GRT III trigger and a Theoben gas ram.  With all the work I'd done on it, it ended up costing as much or more than a new HW 77/97, and it was still a Gamo.  Power and accuracy are very similar, but that's where the similarity ends.  As good as Bob's trigger is, the Rekord is still far superior.  With the gas ram in the CFX, it has a shot cycle similar to the 77, but with a spring, it's not even close to the same when it comes to smooth.  Fit and finish are really no comparison, and I don't think anyone expects to pass a Gamo on to their children.  The CFX is much lighter and longer.  Of the two, I'd prefer the CFX for a day trekking in the woods, off the bench, both are excellent.  Of the two, I found it easier to "get in the groove" with the CFX, but that seems to be changing.  I think I'm finally figuring out how the 77 wants to be shot :-)!  They can both be troublesome with scope length, the CFX is okay with a scope around 13 1/2" long, maybe longer with a short eye relief.  You absolutely CAN NOT cover the loading port on a CFX.  The 77/97 can go longer, I currently have a Simmon 44 Mag on mine at 14 1/2", but it makes loading kind of a PITA.  13" or less is much better.  My 77 has a 97 stock, much better for scope use.  Of the two, the CFX is definitely less hold sensitive.

Just reread this, obviously much of this is opinion, your mileage may vary, as they say :-).  There's a huge disparity in price point between the two, but both are an excellent value.  I was lucky, I bought the CFX as my first adult airgun, and I think it's one of the best choices available for a beginner.  The 77/97 is a logical choice for someone moving up in quality that started with an underlever.  And there I go being long winded again.  Later.

I got 3 weihrauch myself... :p  HW80   HW45   HW40 and offcourse the quality is better, the price is higher too.

I dont expect to get a record trigger from a CFX, maybe I got a good CFX, it sure puts the pellets right where I want them to go, I have shot so many different triggers over the years, Im not bothered so much by the gamo trigger, you just have to learn how to shoot it.

Last week I shot 27 rooks with my HW80, only used my weihrauch cuz its faster and easier to load, Im sure my cfx would have done the job aswell.

Im looking forward to challenging my mates HW97K..he always seems to be a little better with his HW97 than my HW80, but my CFX printed some real tight groups last time I was shooting it.  8)

When shooting springers offhand, it more the shooter than the gun, your gun will never be more precise than you :)

Ive been shooting springers for at least 20years, and im still gettin better every time I shoot.

Have you tried the GRT-III trigger yet? It may not be a Rekord trigger but it sure beats the Gamo trigger by a long shot..:) I have them on all my Gamo Air Rifles and I also have RWS 34 with both the newer and older triggers and I can say that they are equal if not better than them.. I have spent allot of time fine adjusting the GRT-III triggers to how I like them set. Short amount of free play on first stage and about 1 1/2 lb to fire on second stage.. Every one of them are exact and I do not have to worry about how much pull it will take to fire either..:) Guess that is why I buy Gamo's..:) so I can have a realitively low priced springer and get the performance of a $600.00 air rifle...:) Honestly, my CFX is one of my top 4 most accurate air rifles..:) But I love them all and do shoot them all..:) Those GRT-III triggers make Gamo Shine...:)

Way to go buddy,,,,, we can share the dog house  :)

After reading CDT's post about the fact that they'll only be selling 150 of em I'm actually thinking about pushing the button again and ordering a second one, but I don't think I'll wind up doing it,,,, that would really push the wife over the edge !!!  Oh well , at least I got one of em coming in the brown truck :)

I share your excitement.  Got mine late yesterday. Came with two ring mount.  I'll have to change out.  Will be shooting this weekend.  Can't wait.
