I was laying prone in my living room shooting out my back patio door. I was sighting in my scope after a fresh fill of the HPA tank. I had the rifle on the lowest setting and shooting for groups at 26 yards (from patio door to target). Just as I chamber a fresh Predator a small flock of Sparrows lands.
I scan through the scope for the best possible targets then I spot these 2 poor souls. One was facing direcly away from me and the other right in front if him facing me. I take aim at the head of the bird closest, as I loose the .177 caliber Predator the other sparrow looks up. At that moment, the pellet shatters the skull of the first bird and proceeds to pierce the breast of the other just as it gets ready to fly off. Both dead as door nails in less than a second. I paced the distance to 21 yards.
The Talon SS is QUICKLY becomming my favorite "Go-To Gun"

Hi Sam,
I'm happy to see your having fun with your new baby. :-) First blood !
Looks like a real good shooter too, two birds with one pellet .
Enjoy Sam !!!

Well Sam, I was just responding to a post from Dano, who has one on order.. You guys are making me very hungry..:) I would like to ask you one thing. Why did you get the Talon SS instead of the Condor? Just over a $100.00 difference in the price.. Had my eye on the Talon a year ago and have lately been eye ballin the Condor..:) Oh! great shot buddy..:)

Nice shooting Sam, Is you Talon louder than a springer of equal velocity? I'm always looking for the quietest most efficient rifle I can obtain.
Thanks

Nice Sam, very nice. The old saying, kill two bird's with one stone er pellet hehe. Again great shot and pic's. Ed

Hey, Gene, take a look at Mac1's site for info on the Talon vs. the Condor. Short version is, you're better off buying a Talon or Talon SS and getting the 24" barrel. In .22, that will get you around 40 fpe for 30 to 40 shots. That's what I want to do, an SS in .177 and a 24" barrel in .22 cal. Add a MicroMeter tank, and I can target shoot forever on one fill, swap tank and barrel, and I can go shoot racoons. BTW, you should REEEAALLY sell your Sumatra to Dan, he really shouldn't have anything with no wood on it. Probably not good for him, and if he had your Sumatra, then he'd have to get rid of his TalonSS, which he really didn't need in the first place, but it WAS a really good deal, and he had that AG money in his pocket anyway. Just looking out for my buds :-)! Beside, I got first dibs on his SS yesterday, hehe! If he sells it, of course, which he will, of course, 'cause Dan never keeps any of his guns, he just makes them perfect then gets bored and sells them to get something else. Later.

You have Dano's number Dave..:) I call him a Gypsy.. Lucky his wife and kids are not guns... hehe.. And I thought I was the only one here that was looking hard at the AirForce PCP's... lol..

Thanks Guys!
Gene: daved said the EXACT reason for a Talon over a Condor. Condor's have problems with their Valve. Not to mention a shot from that the LONG unshrouded barrel sounds like a .22 Magnum going off!
Dave (plateshooter): Depending on the power level it's pretty quiet. On HPA at the lowest setting shooting at around 550 FPS the only thing I can hear is the hammer slap. Not much noise at all. At the HIGHEST setting shooting at close to 975 FPS it sounds like 2 pumps from a stock Benjamin 397.
It's DEFINITLY quieter on HPA than it is on CO2. No matter what setting I have on in CO2, I get a sharp "PAP" about as loud as a REALLY good hand clap. I think this is due to the CO2 still expanding as it exits the barrel & shroud.
I've done a bit of work to my shorud to quiet it down a bit. Still have MORE to do though.

Thanks for the info Sam, my wheels are spinning again.

I think the word is starting to get out on the Talons. I glad I already got mine .hehe Thanks for the influence, had it not been for your posting on the CO2 adaptability of these guns I wouldn't have bought one . They do take a little getting use to , but I think they are just cool to to shoot (pun intended). I only wished I had gotten another SS in .22 cal instead of the 18" unshrouded Talon. I like the quiet . kirby

They ARE great guns aren't they???
I love mine. I'm thinking of maaaaaybe selling off a couple of my springers to get another SS and an 18" .22 barrel. Dunno yet though! It's a tough Decision!
I'm a little tired of the hand pump for HPA though. Even though it only takes a couple minutes for a maintenance charge, it still takes ALL of my 225 pounds to push the plunger down once I get close to 3000 PSI.

You gotta get a tank ! I know it seems like it would be a hassle , and that's what I thought until I got one. I bought one used from a scuba shop for $99 with a new visual and 4 years left on the hydro. . I bought from them so I know they'll refill it. I screw my bottle into the adapter gauge set I got from Pyramyd and ease open the valve till it gets to 2500 psi and close off the valve , then bleed and unscrew the bottle . It cost $7 for a refill but I haven't had to yet. I usually shoot down to 2000psi and on low power I get a lot of shots and it's about 150 fps faster than the !8" barreled talon on CO2 on low power. kirby

Hi Kirby,
Could you tell me where you bought your Tallon SS ?
Sounds like a very nice rifle !
-
David, how many fills do you think you have done so far? And how many high power shots do you get per fill.. Sam, you can fill me in on this as well..
Thank you
Gene

This explains where I bought them http://www.gatewaytoairguns.com/airguns/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=3376&mid=22466#M22466 kirby

I don't shoot it on high power much , I get 850FPS on #1 on the power wheel with superdomes. I've not counted shots but much , with a 2500 psi fill , I've shot at least 50-60 shots and when I put the tank back on the scuba to top-off it still had 2200psi. I thought it was going to use more . I guess if I turned it up on 9 or 10, I'd be getting over 1000 fps and the shot count would go down . I read at least 40 full power shots are the norm. I also read that the SS with the 12" barrel won't utilize the volume of air past 9 on the power wheel. On the lowest setting with the SS I was denting the heck out of my Beeman pellet trap out in my garage. It looked like it had been shot with a golf ball. I took the 3# hammer to it. hehe. I have noticed that when you adjust the power wheel it'll take a few shoots for the gun to settle-in . J said he has plenty of air , we'll put some pellets through them this weekend. Ask J if all I need is my fill vale and gauge that fits my scuba tank? I'll bring both HPA tanks , we'll turn the 18" Talon up and shoot it on HPA , suppose to get about 1100 fps. kirby

Now that sounds good, David.. I distroyed my pellet trap with my Gamo Hunter 1250 .22.. Did not take more than 50 or so shots before it was cracking out the back..:) I am sure my Sumatra could do some damage as well.. I wanted to take one of the two of my PCP's but only have the fill adapter for a hand pump.. On my 2 PCP's, there is a brass fitting with o'rings and you just slip it in the fill tube hole of the tank.. I don't know if J's tank could fill my FX Cyclone or the Sumatra.. Too late to order any special fittings now..:(

Kirby hit it on the head again.
It depends on the fill pressure and power setting. On full power, I get about 30-35 full power shots and ALOTTA noise. The FPS dropps off on mine right at about setting 8 at 980 +/- 10 FPS with CPL's. I've got close to 1200 FPS with Raptors, but the was just the first 3 shots of a 3000 PSI Fill.
On the Minimum setting and a 3000 psi fill, I get about 650 FPS with CPL's and shot count is close to 80. Mine really isn't fussy when it comes to power wheel adjustments. It shoots fine right after an adjustment. Then again, I decock mine all the time too.
The 12 inch barrel is nice for noise, but I think an 18" would make for a wider range of adjustment in the upper velocities. So will a but of Valve Top hat tuning. I think with the a new barrel and a good top hat adjustment, these guns can put a 7.9 grain pellet in the mid 1300 FPS area and still have a fairly good shot count.
One of the mods I was considdering was a lighter hammer and a heavier spring to reduce the hammer's Dwell Time on the valve to get a higher shot count and minimal amount of air needed for use in the 12 inch barrel... I gotta take the gun apart first & make some measurments though. And I REALLY don't wanna take this thing apart.
Here's a pic of what the Talon can do. This is an old dog food dish made of 14 gauge stainless steel. Shot at 22 yards on the lowest setting with Predators.
