Hi All! Just found the forum-what a great resource! :) After Airgunning myself many years ago but losing the time to do so my 13 yr old son recently found an interest my scoped Silver Streak :).. (Life Scout-Riflery Merit)
This prompted the purchase of a new RWS 48 and BSA 2-7X 32MM scope. Gonna mount it up today...sight it in weather permitting.
Gun shoots nicely plenty of power for hunting (.22cal).
Any tips/tricks/tunes or good ideas for this rifle?
Thanks all and Happy Independence Day!!

Welcome to the forum Bill, I don't have a RWS 48 but I wanted to say welcome, it's good to see another Ohioan here.

Welcome to the family. I will say this you can ask whatever and not feel dumb here. There some other forums I would steer clear of( I used to belong to them) we are just one big happy family here. As for your 48 my experience has been shoot it for about 500 rounds then see where its at. You may not need a tune but if you do Charlie DaTuna a member here will take good can of you on that end. Check all your screws make sure they are tight and periodically check them all scope included. These little toys tend to shake things up. I'm not sure if anyone on here tunes the Benji but there is a guy Mac 1 that could make the Benji like new. Just a thought. Check out the mall tab has a lot of suppliers and tuners on it. Again Welcome aboard

Welcome Bill,
The RWS-48 is a fine rifle right out of the box, I don't own one either, but all that I have read concerning them has been very good or better.
If she's shooting nice and quiet, no spring twang, I don't think there's much to do.
I'm sure our other members that own an RWS-48 will add there insights as they return from there 4th. of July, Independence Day, festivities!
Best wishes on our Nations 231 years of Independence !
Another Bill ;^)

Welcome to the GTA, a good friendly forum. Just acquired a modded -48. Converted to .177 with a shortened , sleeved barrel from Rich in Mich; detuned to shoot 8.44 JSB's at 850 fps. Accurate and easy to shoot, but likes to be held gently. Put a Tasco GA 3-9x32 AO scope on it. Need to shoot it some more to really tell, but it's a fine gun so far.

Hi Bill and welcome to the GTA forum.
The RWS is an excellent gun but they are very dry internally with virtually no lube in them. RWS suggests using their chamber lube through the port but that is not a very good idea in my opinion. It has a big impact in consistency as well as causes excessive detonation and extreme stress on the spring. In fact, I have an RWS-48 .22 fresh off the bench right now and you can easily see what can happen to the spring. Gene just happened to be here when I did the pre-tune chrony and tear down this morning and I was showing him a few how's and why's. It was in the upper 600 to low 700's and is now clocking right at 800 fps. A heavy but great gun for hunting with plenty of power.
