My new landscaping is getting destroyed by rabbits.  I'm trying to eliminate them without my tree hugging neighbors noticing.  I tried to use the Benny CF22 and I couldn't hit them... too far away or maybe just bad aim.  

I have done the research seems like the CFX would be the right choice for me.  I went down the local Cabela's and picked one up yesterday...NICE!

Because it's easy to see into my back yard I decided to do my hunting early AM when the bunnies are plentiful and most are asleep.
5:00 this morning I took aim at what I thought would be a dead rabbit, the CFX sounded like a .22 rimfire!

I really need to quiet this thing down.  Is this possible?  Can tuning make a substantial noise reduction?  Should I take it back and buy something else?  Does anyone have any experience with the new Gamo Whisper.  I really like the fixed barrel and the one pump lever.

Your comments would be appreciated.

Sounds like it's dieseling. You must be the victim of a little combustible lube getting into the compression chamber.  Usually a few shots will burn it out and then all you'll hear is the spring/firing cycle.  A lube/tune will make it quieter.

Most airguns 'on display'in shops are 'dry fire' abused. If this was an'in the box'gun it is probably alright and should just need a good clean up. Pull a fewclean patches through the barrel and wipe away any excess oilsespecially in the compression area.

Dieseling is usually able to be cleared up quickly by shooting a few dozen pellets if the piston seal is intact.That may not be the case since any sharp edge during assembly can ruin a piston sealthe instant it gets sliced.

In addition to the dieseling, what pellets are you using? A word of advice is not to use the PBA's
that came with the gun. They are very light and get close to supersonic speeds, this will cause
just as much noise as the dieseling gun.
Gamo Hunters work pretty well in a CFX and are easy to come by.

The dieseling did go away and I am using RWS Superpoints.  Fairly new to airguns thanks for the help.

RWS are a good brand give the super domes a try after ya spring has settled down you might be quite happy with the result.
