: Break-in Before Sighting In?
: r1derbike July 09, 2007, 11:07:58 AM
Would it be advisable to wait-a-bit (hundreds of shots?) before sighting-in the scopes on my two new air rifles?

Have been using the open sights on both for maybe 50 shots per rifle.  Is this enough break-in?

You can sight them in when brand spanking new, but on spring rifles you may need a few hundred rounds before the seals are broken in and velocity becomes consistant.  50 rounds would most likely not be enough for a springer, maybe 500+.

Your exactly right on that Dano..:) And I might add the fact that you do not want to clean the barrel for the first 4 or 5 thousand shots and only then just run a couple swabs through it with goo gone or simple green. When cleaning your barrel thoroughly it will clean out the lead seal that it has developed through shooting it. You do want to clean it initially to get out the manufacturers preservative lube that they use.
