Still not done, just in rough shaped form, but close enough to show a little bit:

It's Cocobolo and hard maple.  Improves the feel of the gun quite a bit, but still needs some work.

Wow Airbud that look's fantastic, it's been awhile since I've seen some wood work from you bud. You haven't lost your touch at all  and I'm looking foward to the finished product. Very sharp Dano. Ed

Thanks Ed.  The stock Talon grip is worse imho than even a Crosman 22XX grip, it was actually making my hand cramp to shoot it.  The forend I also felt was just too short and needed more swell to cup the hand.  I'm still not entirely happy with the way the gun fits, but it is alot better than stock.  The scope is still too high, I can't do anything about that, but the buttplate is too short and I WILL do something about that.  As it fits right now the gun shoulders much better, at least with my shooting style.  I have a little more shaping, and alot of sanding to do before I put a few coats of SteveC's "Custom Oil Finish" on the set.  I have enough wood to make another set and I plan to do that....my guess is someone else may want to trade me some "airgun swag" for them:)  Feels good to be out in the garage again, kinda lost my "Mojo" for awhile there...glad it's back!

Looking good Dano, Reminds me of a 'Cuda .and about that other set, I know a guy who has a 18" .177 barrel and end cap. hehe. kirby
: Re: You guys didn't think I was gonna leave it stock did you?
: DanoInTx July 18, 2007, 02:50:34 PM
Thanks, I dunno about the Cuda, but if you look at the forgrip I shaped it a bit like the head of an eagle...ya know, Talon/Eagle?  Cuda been an eagles head?  Maybe that's what you meant:)

Let's see how it looks when I get done, I'm really thinking I might want to trade this set for an 18" barrel and endcap if I can find one anywhere........haven't seen one have ya?
: RE: You guys didn't think I was gonna leave it stock did you?
: Big_Bill July 18, 2007, 03:36:28 PM

That sure makes a big difference Dano,

Your forend sure reminds me of an eagle, is that what your shootin for ?

I love the wood ! Do you think a M-16 scope mount would work, they bring the scope way down to the handle ? Just a thought.

If you need someone to try it out for ya....

: Re: You guys didn't think I was gonna leave it stock did you?

Well I was gonna send it off for you to break it in, but after you turned me down on the Goldfinger I had to reconsider....I hope you understand Bill:)

: THAT'S what I've been waiting to see...
: daved July 18, 2007, 04:18:18 PM
I was wondering what you'd come up with, looks great :-)!  How about a plain walnut set for a 12" .22 barrel?  Not really, I've actually got an idea or two perambulating around in the back of my mind.  'Course, I need a bull dozer to clear the crap out of my shop.  Oh, and an exterminator, I've got a hornets nest the size of a basketball in there.  Note to self: if you're going to open up a wall of your shop, try not to leave it open for two months.  Later.

Hey Dano, I wondered what you have been up to lately and now I know..:) We all know..:) Well I knew you were gonna put some wood somewhere on that baby.:) Looking fantastic and I can't wait to see it all done. What are you gonna do about that butt plate?

: Re: You guys didn't think I was gonna leave it stock did you?
: DanoInTx July 19, 2007, 02:09:41 AM
I have a standard vented butt pad I plan to mount on it with a custom aluminum plate I have been making.  Should get that and the grips/forend set done around the same time....I have been waiting on a part for my scroll saw to show up in the mail from Sears..., but it got here yesterday:)  Should get these done this weekend unless I get hit with,"We really need to paint the house", or something like that.

Don't hold that against me, HECK I haven't even stopped holding her and puttin her to bed yet !

I hole her and wipe her down with a NEW silicone cloth each night, cradle her in my arms, whisper to her how pretty she is, and tuck her into her case for a good nights sleep.

Now how can I send her to you, when she hardly knows her daddy yet ?

Nice try, but I am from California.  If I want it to visit California I'll take it with me to visit my family.  Besides, haven't they pretty much banned everything except rubber band guns out there?

Lookin good Dano!!!

I've been working on a set too... Well, more like "Thinkin" on a set! LoL

I was thinking I might take the forearm all the way up to the last inch or so from the end of the frame. Sorta Mannlicherish.
: Re: You guys didn't think I was gonna leave it stock did you?
: DanoInTx July 20, 2007, 03:41:45 PM
Welp my set is a bit longer than standard in the for end area, and definately taller.  My shooting style is resting my left elbow on my chest or knee if sitting, and then I cup the for end with my fingers pointing at the target....so a really long forend isn't needed, but tallish with some cup is most comfy.

Like this:

But the short/flat standard forend on the Talon makes me shoot like this:

So that, and of course style is why I made the cupped "swell" tallish forend for my set.  I'm getting real close to finishing the current set....which I think are going to someone elses Talon...then I will make myself a similar duplicate, I'm pretty happy with the shape:)

Man, am I really that fat?

just finished the final sanding and finishing of my Talon gripset.  I started at 100 grit with an osilating sander and ended up at 800 grit by hand.  The final finish is an oil finish by Steve Corcoran at woodsandwateroutdoors.com....this stuff is good and easy to use.  Anyways, here's the pics (I know, the pics aren't great):

Sure is going to be nice to have a set of these on my MiniSS .hehe. Dan , I keep coming over and  looking at least once a day. This design should make a big difference in the way the Talon handles and points. Oh Dan I forgot to ask, in the first pictures you posted ; what kind of orange bugs y'all got down there in Texas. That one looks like he'd put a hurt on you. hehe  kirby

They will definately improve the feel of the Talon, I have no doubts about that.  They will be done soon enough, well, they are done, I just want to make sure they are done, done!  Should look pretty nice on that Mini-TalonSS of yours.

Funny, Steve Corcoran told me he liked that "heli-bug" more than he liked my grips when I showed him that picture.  Those heli-bugs are hell on the bottoms of your feet when you step on them, but perfectly harmless to young children...go figure.  The only thing worse than the dreaded heli-bug is the small Lego-bug, ever step on one of those at 5a.m. when you are trying to make it out to your kitchen for that first cup of coffee?  You do know that the mosquittos here in Texas are much larger than the heli-bug or the Lego-bug though...those things have been known to carry off small children.

Sound's like our horseflies here Dano, they sound like a small propjob buzzing around and five of em would make a nice kabob for the BBQ. Ed

Do your horseflies bite?  Ours do!

Never knew a fly could bite until I moved to Texas.  I saw this bug the other day that I think could probably eat my dog!

A MOSQUITO RAPED A CHICKEN IN A BLUEBERRY PATCH
SEVEN DAYS LATER THE CHIQUITOS HATCHED
THEY GREW UP FAST AND THEY GREW UP MEAN
THEY TORE A BIG HOLE IN THE WINDOW SCREEN
THEY SUCKED ALL THE JUICE FROM A RASPBERRY PIE
THEY CAUGHT UP WITH THE BEAGLE AND THEY SUCKED HIM DRY
THEY TOOK A FEW PINTS FROM ME AND MY MOTHER
THEN THEY FLEW AWAY WITH MY LITTLE BROTHER

WHAT'S THAT NOISE COMING OUT OF THE BLUE
LIKE A SQUADRON OF B-52’S
IT’S A FLOCK OF CHIQUITOS AND THEY’RE FLYING LOW
DEATH AND DESTRUCTION WHEREVER THEY GO
GRAB THE KIDS AND HIDE ALL THE PETS
GET OUT THE GUNS AND THE CHIQUITO NETS
BOARD UP THE WINDOWS AND SANDBAG THE DOORS
WE GOTTA GET READy... GET READY FOR WAR

Thanks Dano

Well I would put it all together, and I have prior to final finishing, but these guys are going to someone else and I don't want to keep messing with them:)

They DO feel very good though, and I will have a set for myself at some point.  I also have another set roughed out in Ash from Steve that I plan on going bedliner with.  These guns are fun to customise alot like the Crosmans but with more "oomph"!
