Hi all,
I'm fairly new to the airgun addiction (only 3 rifles so far) and I need some help. My gamo big cat's breech seal is not looking too good. I have roughly shot 300-400 rounds through it, so I'm thinking it should not look as bad. All mating surfaces seem smooth, no burrs. Thank for all your help.

Sorry to hear about your problems with the breech seal. It does look pretty bad. I am not sure why your Big Cat has a different seal than mine. My breech seal is very hard plastic almost made into the barrel. The softer rubber type seal is actually on the chamber side of the gun. That's weird. Yours looks like the older version like on the Shadow Sport and others. I know some of the Shadow Sport owners have had issues with chewed up breech seals. That's why I figured mine was different. (See pictures in the post just below yours-Prowling the Big Cat). They aren't hard to change-fairly simple actually. You can get a 4 pack from the Gamo website. Hope everything works out for you.

Yes, I have seen your pics, it looks totally different from mine. I guess I'll just get the replacement seals and hope it doesn't happen again. Maybe my rifle sat on the shelf at Wally World too long and the rubber got too hard?
Thanks for the reply.

I have the same seal in my shadow and it has done the same. It doesn't leak (tissue test). A fix is taking a slither off the seal with a craft knife. The seal stands too proud and that is the reason they get chewed so quickly. Mine lasted 50 shots.

...on the lower edge of the transfer port when you close the breach.
You should be able to mitigate this somewhat by using a tiny ball grinder on the end of a dremel to take the sharp edge off the front face of the port.
If you do get a new seal, shaving a little off the BACK side (before installation) will let the seal protrude less and probably alleviate your problem.

Thank you for all replies. I'm going to polish the port edges and get new seals down the road, as Gamo is out of stock right now.
