: Trigger Install--gun wont cock
: johncedarhill August 14, 2007, 08:40:51 AM
I put in the GRT III trigger on the whisper. Not quite like the pictorial but most of the pieces just fell out--ok no problem a little different but overall the same stuff. The gun will not cock when I put it back together. What am I missing here? Took apart again looks OK.

Make sure that the sear is located in the trigger, not off to one side. There is some spring tension on the sear that will push it to one side when the trigger is removed. If the sear is not centered in the body of the GRT trigger (the hollow center portion) it can't engage and lock when you cock the rifle.

Sure looks like it is in the center of the trigger.  I don't think it can be reassembled unless it is in the center.

Does it make sense than the washer on the trigger guard could make the difference in not cocking. I decided to put it back together again (not like humpty dumpty) and this time it cocked??????? Can somebody tell me what is up with this?

Hi John... it does sound as though the intermediate lever (it's not the sear itself) was not setting in the slot of the trigger, easily missed and a common occurrence during assembly. It will go together usually even if it's not seated and the gun will not cock.

Thanks. I played around with it both the old trigger and the new one. Put it back together with that washer on the stock side of the trigger and it worked.

Yup, I did the same thing with my Shadow when I put my GRT in.  There was a mention about it in the instructions, but I didn't understand what it was talking about until I put it back together and it wouldn't cock.  I took it back apart, and sure enough the intermediate lever was tilted over to one side.  I centered it and put the trigger back in and it worked like a charm.  BTW, this is a fantastic trigger.  It makes all the difference in the world.  Thanks again, Bob!

I did exactly the same thing too - and then of course I re-read the instructions and it was there in plan sight.

Its a small trap for first timers, but once you know about it easy to avoid.

I thought I had it the first time. My question is what keeps that lever from becoming uncentered once the gun is assembled?

Once it is seated properly, it cannot possibly become uncentered. It cannot come out of the slot once the trigger blade is installed.
