Brown Santa dropped off a package at my place today. Inside the box I found my new BSA 3-12x40 scope which I purchased from Midsouth. I really liked their quick turnaround. I was quickly off to the workbench!
I got alll my pertinent parts together and mounted said scope on my new Hunter 440 with an Accushot medium height 1-piece scope mount. Everything fit beautifully. I have a lot of good things to say about the Accushot mount AND the BSA scope. First, the Accushot mount is about as rigid of a mount for the price as you are going to find. It was less than $20 from Straight Shooters and is a quality piece from the get go. It mounted easily in about 5 minutes. The BSA scope is incredible. Parallax is adjustable from 10 yards to infinity and the view is crystal clear. The scope came equipped with a pair of threaded aluminum lens caps that fit very well. I am considering placing a rubber o-ring on them so they do not get over tightened.
Off to the shooting bench...
It took about 10 shots (I was using Crosman Precision hollow points) to find the bullseye of my target set up at 15 yards. The scope, as installed, was online windage-wise, but was off a bit on the elevation. I am VERY impressed with the elevation and windage adjustments on this BSA model. The adjusters were easily turned and set. The caps covering the screws are made well and screw on precisely. Good stuff here.
For whatever reason, someone was looking out for me today. After putting 5-6 shots through a 3/4" diameter hole at 15 yards, a PAIR of tree rats scampered down the hackberry tree about 20 yards from the elm tree where I had my target mounted. I could not have asked for a better gift! One of the little pests bounded across the lawn to the elm tree, climbed up to the first branch, and stared at me. I couldn't resist. After placing the crosshairs of the BSA on the rodent's melon, I slowly squeezed the GRT-III (what a GREAT trigger!) and WHAMMO! The nut muncher went stiff as a board with all four feet sticking straight out and slammed into the ground 10 feet below.
Upon inspection, the hollow point struck the target EXACTLY where I had placed the crosshairs. Oh... the other tree rat high-tailed it out of there when he saw his buddy eat dirt. His day is coming, I am sure!
Bob, thanks so much for a great product. I cannot say enough good things about the GRT-III. I have included pics of the new rifle, along with Mr. Dead and the two other Gamos in my stable, my SK1 and the CFX.

Excellent job, Ron! Plus nice pics.
I've gotta get a scope on my 440 this weekend and hopefully put her to work.

During lunch today, I put up a target out in the warehouse and stepped off 30 yards. I decided to give the RWS Superdomes a chance as I picked up a tin of them from Cabelas on the way home from the airport, yesterday. After shooting about 20-25 shots and resetting my scope for the new POI, I layed out 10 pellets to see what kind of group I could get. Other than one errant shot that was about 3/4" off the mark (I didn't squeeze the danged trigger!) the group was within 1-1/8" inch. I am sure that with a little practice and a better shooting bench (I was using a rolling workbench) I can get the group to less than 1 inch.
I do like the way the superdomes hit. These pellets really flatten out nicely and they seem to be very consistent from one pellet to the next. I also picked up a tin of RWS Super H's and I will get a feel for them tonight.
