I am new to this forum and have a question.
What would you recommend as a entry level PCP? (ie, target, hunting (small game), plinker, etc.)
Why would you recommend that item?
Thanks

I would recommend this rifle http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/model.pl?model_id=181 ; the picture they now show is the ERB in walnut not the carbine , then get you a used 80cf scuba tank for approx $100 . and this gauge and yolk system http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/accessory.pl?accessory_id=534 . On the gun and fill system you can save 10% with a coupon code that will put the gun and gauge shipped to you at less than $600 for your setup + your tank , that makes a total of $700. You will not find a better quality a or more accurate setup than this . If you want it mostly for hunting look at the .22 cal . , it will be an adjustable power model like my S410 H classic. Set it a little below half power and you'll get at least 35 shots at just over 20 FPE per fill . Sighted at the top of a one inch dot at 30 yards , mine is dead on at 40 and if you're out hunting and need a little more power , turn the power knob to full power and you've got 35+ FPE with a 15g. pellet that's 3" high at 40 yards . I can use the bottom or tip of the top post of my 3x12x40 bsa airgun scope as my aiming point and it's dead on at this power level at 40 yards . The adjustable power .22 carbine should come with a shroud that quietens the report, they're not silent but they are quiet enough that I have no worry shooting them in my backyard. If you opt for a .177 cal. you will most likely wind up with the 12 fpe model as I did. Not nearly as powerful but a ton of shots on a fill on this NON-adjustable model. Still plenty powerful enough to take out a squirrel ; with a 8.3 g superdome, it shoots at 790-810fps. The triggers are adjustable and break like glass . They're a two stage that can be adjusted to a single stage if you prefer. The standard beech stocks rival some of the custom stocks I've seen on rimfires with the rosewood gripcap and laser cut checkering. I know $700 seems like a lot of money but it's worth every cent IMO . These guns shoot so smooth. My second choice would be a Talon SS , but you're looking at $600 for a complete set-up and the Air Arms is well worth the extra $100. I don't even regret selling my R7 to help get my Air Arms , and that was the sweetest springer I ever owned. kirby

Thanks, went with a B-51.

Sure anytime , I hope you get a good one . kirby

Roy, David did not even mention the Chinese B-51.... That makes your question Mute. If you want the GTA members to help you then do not ignore what they say, or you will not be getting any answers back on your questions. Dave was giving you his opinion of what you were asking.

Yep, he asked about an entry level PCP . I don't consider a B50 or B51 an entry level because of what I've read that usually have to be done to them to make them into shooters. Beginners IMO need something that will hopefully be dependable out of the box and not require any adjustments or tuning. There's enough variables and new procedures to deal with with a PCP without worrying about leaks and inconsistencies . The Bams can be had for around $300 plus a tank and gauge set , then you're up to $500 . A couple hundred dollars more is cheap insurance to insure a nice shooting gun. BTW the stock on the B51 is an odd one as is the stock on the B26-2 , the thumbhole one . Few people are able to shoot that stock without modification from what I've read . I've held both the B51 and the B50 and have shot a B50 , neither feels or looks as nice as an Air Arms . kirby

I would look at a Logun Solo, or the AA410 ERB, but I would make sure it was a shrouded barrel, (the link by Kirby is for an unshrouded model). Both of these rifles are powerful and supposed to be very accurate. I would get a .22 even if it were just for target shooting, because it can easily double as a hunting rifle, and the .177 can't.

Ah, I read some more and saw that you went with the BAM. I think Kirby is right - might as well spend a few dollars more now and get a good PCP to start with. I also considered a BAM, but when you add in the tune that everyone says it needs, you are up to what it cost for the Logun Solo, which is supposed to be a very decent weapon. Let us know how you make out with the BAM.

In .177, it's not shrouded and really doesn't need it IMO ;but I thought all .22 were fac guns and came shrouded , I may be wrong but this is what I was told . I agree about getting the 22 for your first, if to be used for hunting and target shooting ,because of the power adjustability of that model. I've read that the Solo can be a good PCP also , but I'm not familiar with them and I own two Air Arms and can speak to their function and feel hands on. kirby

Kirby, I have noticed that they state if it is a shrouded version, and I assumed if they didn't state it, then it is an unshrouded version. I have read good things for quite a while on the AA rifles, especially that the ERB is one of the quietest airguns out there. I also spent many a time looking over the Solo's stats, lol, and I was always impressed with those numbers. My Logun MKII shoots at around 930 fps and it is quiet, but now after seeing your rifle, I want one of those too, lol. I think I need help, lol, - but not until I get some more air rifles, lol.

I know exactly ; I'd like to have one of those FX Cyclones like Gene has too. I've shot that one and it's too sweeeet . But the price of one of those has gone up so much I doubt I'll ever have one. And then again , I'd like to have anothe rAA classic, but in .177 and a single shot with a walnut stock . I think I could shoot some nice scores in field target with one of those. And then there's ......well you get the picture. hehehe It sure is a fun hobby. kirby

LOL - ok, I know how you feel about the Cyclone; I would like to try a shrouded Rapid with some hard-hitting fpe, but their price keeps me just a looky-lou. Better that way I guess, lol.
