Hey guys,
When I first got my gun, the squirrels went away. When I had to take that one back, they came back. now that i got another one, they left again. How can I lure them back to my trees? peanut butter? bird seed? which side of tree? on tree or ground? that type of question
Help is appreciated,
Robert

Cracked corn works well, and put up a bunch of bird feeders..:) They like the sunflower seeds in the bird food.

Hmm. I guess i should tell my mom i wanna be nice to the birds lol. but thats just a byproduct of the squirrels!

Corny on the cob, dry. Tap a nail in a wood platform. stick the cob down on it and presto. As Gene say's, they like the Sunflower seed's too. Ed

Best case scenario is to send me your air rifle and then you do not have to worry about any more squirrels...:) PM me and I will give you my address to send it to..lol

The cracked corn and the sunflower seeds do work well but I found something that even works better. I started putting these out to attract the starlings, which showed up in large numbers, but I quickly noticed that the squirrels went nuts for em (no pun intended).
What are they???? The solid suet cakes found in the bird seed sections of most stores,,, but make sure you get the one that list nuts in the ingredients. I buy them from "Home Depot" for .99 cents each and the label says "Nutty Treats Suet Cakes". They have roasted peanuts, millet and corn mixed in with the suet and I'm tellin ya they attract squirrels like magic.
Give em a try, you won't be disappointed. As a side benefit you should see quite a lot of starlings show up also to give you some added targets.

This may be a dumb question, but are there ANY starlings in maryland? And should I put them up high? or on the ground?
Thanks,
Robert

It is obvious - pretend you are taking the air rifle back and then sneak it back into the house and wait for the squirrels to feel safe enough to come back and then blast them. Corn and birdseed are good choices as well, I suppose. LOL. Good luck.

What I did was take a length of wire and placed it around the trunk a tree. Then I took 3 metal suet holders (they usually sell them right next to the suet cakes) and hung them from the wire loop with another length of wire. I have it so the suet cakes are suspended about 4 feet off the ground which is just the right shooting height from my basement doors. I quietly open the basement doors, sight up and shoot.
I had to resort to using the wire to hang the suet cakes since the squirrels would chew through anything else, get the suet holders on the ground and then eat all the suet in one day.
As for starlings in Maryland, I don't know, I think they should be some, they seem to be just about everywhere else.

Well, I kinda hope the starlings come back around to my yard at some point. When I saw them back in mid-Spring before I had any airguns, they seemed to be concentrating on whatever they were eating on the ground to be bothered by me on the deck. But shortly after I shot one in the yard, they appeared to have left the area, and not just my yard. Well, I have something waiting for them if they do return ;~D

They love whole peanuts in the shell. i`ve smoked 6 tree rats in the last week using peanuts. don`t get caught lol i believe baiting is illegal even in your backyard shhhhhhhhhhh

Sunflower seeds and peanuts.

Should I anchor them somehow so they cant take them away? if so, with what?
-
If you hang them with the wire just like I described in my earlier post you won't have any problems at all.

I am fortunate enough to have a huge oak tree and a decent-sized walnut tree in my yard. Tree rats LOVE acorns and walnuts.

Robert, I didn't read all the other posts here yet so I'm just gonna throw a few things I do at ya.
I have a corn cob feeder screwed to one tree on one side of my yard. I smear PB on a used corn cob. They love that crap!
I also have a bait tray in the back on a fence post amongst some small trees. In it I use old bread, popcorn, fruit, veggeis, biscuits, etc.
Squirrels will eat almost anything.
You can use nearly any type of cracker or bread product. Even pizza crust.
They will raid bird feeders but that can get costly and wasteful in a hurry.
If they see you, I suggest finding or creating a blind or barrier to block their little beady eyes.
Often, I drop the blinds most of the way down and move back from the window a couple of feet. This also muffles muzzle noise and they have no idea where the sniper is, Ha!
