: Remember 9/11
: johncedarhill September 07, 2007, 02:58:00 AM

This is a portion of an email I received from my cousin about flying the flag on 9/11.

THE PROGRAM IS THIS:

On Tuesday, September 11th, 2007, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the  United States . Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this anniversary of our country's worst tragedy. We do this in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms.

In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds.

I think a lot of people have forgotten what happened 6 years ago. I go nuts sometimes when I see people saying live in peace no more war. What do they think will happen in the US soon after we pull the troops out. They will wage war on the US and have free reign in the middle east. We do need to put massive pressure on Iraq to step it up and take control. I'm just not sure they want it as bad as they said they did. If it takes pulling some of the troops out so be it. I will say I'm ashamed of myself for not reestablishing another flag for the home front. I really need to get on that. Well thats my slivers worth.

I haven't forgotten.  I never will.  My birthday is 9/11/60.  They will always fly the flag at half-mast on my birthday. That means a lot to me.

As an employee of the Dept. of the Army,  I am reminded daily to and from work.  I take great pride and pleasure being able to work for these great folks.
I think of 9/11 almost daily and how it almost wrecked my life after my last deployment in 2002.
I shall not and refuse to forget.  To forget is to give in.
That day 343 of my brothers gave the ultimate sacrifice for total strangers.

Despite all this, I do not fly a flag 24/7, 365 for security reasons.  DoD employees are urged to be vigilant and exercise caution as a potential target.

Our flag flies high and proud everyday at my place. I always remind family and friends about that day in Sept. Many people have forgotten about that day but I believe the great majority of the American people have not and will never forget Sept 11 2001.
