This a.m. (Sunday), the Discovery Channel had a show on "Craftiest Animals". The first one was abour squirrels and the one on right now is on racoons.
I went to the Discovery Channels website to see if the shows will repeat and I did not see that they will... that doesn't mean they won't though.
I only caught about half of the squirrel show. They had three people that had different squirrel problems; one guys garden was getting trashed, one ladies bird feeders were being robbed, and one guys garage and stuff inside was getting trashed.
After a whole buncha money, only two things they had tried seemed to work; one was a bird feeder on a shepherds hook and a dome on the post for the bird food lady, the second thing that worked was a canine for the guy and the garage. Poor guy, he wanted to bust out his "BB gun" but his wife wouldn't let him. He was pretty frustrated and gave up and passed the task to his wife. It seemed pretty evident to me that he was pi ssed he couldn't shoot them. His wife came up with getting an ankle biter, which worked.
It was a fun show to watch, and wished I could've seen the whole thing. Learning their ways and how to keep them away would certainly set off light bulbs on how to get them to come in.
For the racoon show on now, one guy has a nice garden with a pond the racoons are trashing and another lady has her garden and new sod being trashed and right now they are working into her house roof. I see racoons very rarely in my neck of the woods.
Cool shows, I hope they repeat.

Thanks for the tip Howard. I just turned on the one on Racoons.

Around my area, on the rare occasion that a racoon is seen in the middle of the day, the concern is that it may have rabies, especially if it's acting weird. That's grounds for whacking him on general principle, but probably wiser to use a powder-burner (unless you happen to have one of them big-bore, high pressure behemoths ;~).
On the other hand, a couple years ago my family had a reunion at one of Kentucky's several wonderful State Resort Parks, and it was a rare sidewalk trashcan the DIDN'T have a masked bandit foraging around in it, even at high noon- they were livin' the life of Riley, fat and contented as could be.

After I posted that about checking out their web site, I went with my satellite TV's program guide and did not see it within the next 7 days. I'll keep my eyes open and hopefully will come across it so I can give a proper heads up time-wise if they should re-run.

Thank's Howard. Ed
