: Squirrel "Sighting"

Not really a hunting report, more of a squirrel "sighting" report.  Pulled out of the driveway this morning a little after 6 am to make the 7 mile drive to work and simply couldn't believe all the squirrels running across the roadway in front of my truck as I drove.  In my short trip I drive past a couple of large sections of woods that I often hunt in and for some reason today it seemed like every squirrel in the woods were crossing the street at the same time.

I've never seen so many tree rats scampering across the road in my life.  They were everywhere, it was amazing.  Not quite sure where they were all going, or why they were all going there at the same time,,,, it kinda looked like a squirrel "migration"  :)

I'm at least glad to know there are that many squirrels in the woods,,,, wonder where they all have been hiding when I'm in those woods with my air rifles ???

Anyway, like I said, not a hunting report, just a weird occurrence I thought was interesting.

The same thing happens in my neck of the woods, only thing is, the migration is mule deer, not squirrels.  Around here you learn that if you see one crossing the road ahead of you, hit the brakes, there's going to be another one right behind it.  And trust me, a mule deer hood ornament is NOT good for the front end of whatever you happen to be driving :-(!  Been there, done that, as the saying goes.  Later.

Hey Jeff,

Looks to me as if they feel safer in front of your truck, than around you when you have an air rifle in your hands !

They Have better odds ! hehe...he

The only thing that I have ever heard of that would cause a squirrel migration like this, is a forest fire ?

Jeff, when someone enters the woods with a rifle, they run across the road.
