: New Gamo Toy...R-77 Combat

Picked this up @ Natchez for 39.99 smackers.  Fired 32 pellets through it, this evening.  A bit loud, the rear sight is wonky plastic and shock-mounted, but all-in-all, probably worth every penny I paid for it! :emoticon:

Chronied it tonight; 320 to 350 fps, one shot 380 fps.  Close range plinkin' gun.  Cylinder rotates freely when loaded and closed, so if you touch the cylinder, or lay the gun down, your cylinder sync is screwed, and you can't see the pellets very well to realign for the next shot.  Stupid.  Because of this, if I lay the gun down for any reason after shooting a partial cylinder, I open it and load-it-up.  You know when you shoot an open bore, sounds like a gaseous fart!

OK...hundreds of pellets and cartridges wasted, and why this pistol is selling so cheaply (clearance); The hammer spring is not stout enough to force the valve off its seat fully, to send the pellet out of the barrel using it DA! The pellet ALWAYS hangs between the barrel and cylinder using DA.  5 brands of pellets, and fresh CO2 didn't help either.  The balance struck between trigger-pull and hammer authority is WAY off! Single action use is just fine, no problem.  I bought this for its DA action, and it is not operational.

I'm glad I only paid 39.99 for this, now.

: Follow-up On DA Problem...

The only way I was able to get pellets to enter the barrel, instead of hanging between cylinder and barrel when fired, was to "stage" the pellets by pushing them into the cylinder approx. 3/4 of an inch, past the point of maximum resistance.  This helped the double action firing tremendously.  The pellets still hang, when the CO2 gets a bit low, but at least now *most* of them will leave the barrel fired DA.

I don't know if this will get better with time, as the resistance of the cylinder "wipers" becomes less, but users expecting to just load a cylinder full of "flush" pellets, then shooting DA, are going to be disappointed.

I purchased one of these for DA practice much like you and had the same problem in DA mode.  I sent the gun back three times and received three new R-77's, all exhibited the same problem.  The good news is after thousands of rounds and a good cleaning, the gun now shoots fine in DA mode, only about 15 fps difference than in SA mode.  I just load it up, use a pell seat and it's good to go, shoots quite well as a matter of fact, not a Twinmaster but much cheaper and much more like a larger bore revolver.  I can't say this will happen to all of them, but keep shooting it and you might get lucky.

Thanks for the info, staz.  That's good news! Very good news! Now I feel I didn't waste my 39.95.  My wife loves to shoot the thing, she even tied one of her Christmas wreaths she didn't like to a tree, and hammered away at the reindeer dressed as Santa Claus.  She said it was great fun to shoot as the wreath was spinning.

I have to admit I joined in the horror...

EDIT: Oh! BTW...are there any aftermarket red-dot or laser sights that will attach somehow to this pistol? I can't see where anything would mount?
