Well I did it this morning, took the thing apart, some things were easy, some things took a little thinking. Every thing I read about tuning said watch out for sharp edges, man they weren't kidding, don't think I need stitches, just a little paper towel and duct tape and keep going. The old seal,HaHA yea old one month old and it looked like crap,a little extra tale on one side and on the other a nice sized chunk missing, maby 1/32 left to do the sealing, over all the seal looked bad to me. All the metal parts looked good , nice and shiny , still did a little polishing any way. Being that the gun is only a month old I reused the old parts except the seal which I got along with the lubes from Maccari. Put it all back together and WOW what a difference, no more twang, just a thump that's all. I now have a complety different gun, cant wait for it to stop raining so I can get back to shooting.

Good luck with that "new" Viper Phil. Its nice to hear that others here are doing their own tune ups. Maybe some day I'll get enough nerve to do one of my own :o

The rain stopped got to put a few more shots threw, its dieseling abit but no worse than a month ago. Groups are getting better 1/2 inch at 20 yards , people talk about letting the gun settle down after a tune so maby it will get better. As for the power I don't have a chrony but before when I hit a pice of pine plank 1x4 you could gust see a bump on the back side, but now no bump just a hole, going right threw. Did not tune for power just twang but as a byproduct hey ok.

I took mine apart on Saturday morning, too. Pretty easy, except that I did damage the plastic end cap as I didn't realize the stock recoil stud went through it. Duh!
My Viper is a few months old. There was very little lube and a bit of rust. The piston is almost black except for a few shiny spots of wear. I never thought the thing was dieseling, but maybe? The seal has one gouge in it, but I'll be replacing that.
My parts and lubes won't be here until the end of the week. I started it before the parts got here so I would be forced to take my time.
How does your barrel crown look? It's really hard to see down there since it is recessed. The q-tip test came out fine, so I think I'll leave it alone.
