: QB-57's First Kill
: longislandhunter October 20, 2007, 12:56:45 PM
I had the afternoon free today so I decided to do some more target shooting with the QB57 .177 and try to get the feel for the  rifle and especially the trigger.  After about an hour of plinking, and feeling much more comfortable with the trigger feel,  I went about doing grouping tests with the QB and every pellet type on my shelf.  The rifle produced good groups with several different pellets, but the 2 best performers were CPL's and Crosman Destroyers, both gave nice tight dime sized groups but the CPL's edged out the destroyers by a fraction so I decided to tweak the scope for the CPL's.  After a few minutes had the little gun shooting dead center bullseyes at 25 yards.

I decided to chrony the CPL's and the Destroyers so I set up my chrony.  The results were an average FPS of 648 for the CPL's and 678 for the destroyers.  Based on the chrony results I may resight the gun in for the destroyers, but anyway here's the hunting part of the story.................

As I was sitting at my shooting bench happily pinging away at my metal spinner targets with the CPL's I suddenly see the tree rat that's been wreaking havoc with my bird feeders lately.  I've seen him before but he's always seen me first.  I already had a CPL loaded and ready to fly so I just sat there motionless as he worked his way over to my feeders.  I wasn't going to let him chew on them anymore, this was his last raid.  I waited until he was on a branch above the feeders, distance was 20 yards.   Put the crosshairs of the tiny scope on his noggin, squeezed through the trigger until I reached the point where I knew it was gonna break, took a short breath and squeezed a little more.  BAM.... the rifle fired, the pellet slammed home with a POP and the squirrel rolled over on the branch and fell to the ground. He twitched once and then it was over.

The pellet hit him just above the right eye and took out his "grey matter"  :)

Before cleaning him and placing him in the freezer I proudly set up the new rifle on the woodpile with her trophy for some pics.

I just love it when I get a new rifle sighted in and a fool wants to give a live target, it just don't get any better.

Fantastic Jeff, I had a feeling that it wouldn't take long to get her in the hunting mood. Once again a cheap little airgun and the skillfull shooter behind it show's all that they can drop game also. Great story and super shot, A pic is really worth a thousand word's.  After the Crosman TAC1.22 get's here I gess I will give it a try again and order a 57 hehe. Ed

Thanks Ed,,,,,, I love this little gun.  Once I got a feel for the gun, and especially the trigger, the groups really tightened up.  I may order a Golden Antler to replace the little 4x20 that came with it, but for right the little scope is dead on accurate and gettin the job done  :)

I'm gonna be ordering the .22 version soon,,,, this way I'll have 2 guns to work on this winter to keep me busy.  Best $54 bucks I ever spent...   :)

Congrats on first blood.  Bet the rat will be especially tasty, since it didn't take a wad of cash to bring it down!

Before you know it, that little gun may even get some air time on this forum!

Looks like the QB-57 brought you luck Jeff,

That tree rat really underestimated her, It probably thought that you couldn't hit him with that Chinese Cheapo Rifle. LOL He should have known that you were doing the shootin. ;-)

Great shootin, and great photos, you nevercease to amaze me !

Good work Jeff.  Reminds me of breaking mine in on 2 of 'em just minutes apart.
I haven't seen a source for them in .22.  Where did you guys find them?
Where do you guys buy your Tasco Golden Antlers from?
