: Much needed project
: Splash October 30, 2007, 11:46:25 AM

My back porch work shop was in desperate need of some storage space. Instead of putting up some wire shelves that I had, I decided to build a simple cabinet. Since it was to go in the corner and to save on materials, I used the wall for 1 side and the back. For the back shelf supports I used a 2x4 ripped in half on a 45. The face frame is 1x3 fur strips, doubled to make an easy half lap joint. The shelves, center supports and end panel are 5/8" ply.

I made the face fame and installed the shelf supports. Then installed the center supports and shelves. Attatched the face frame and end panel. I can take some more detailed pics if anyone is interested in making something similar.

Nice built in storage system.  Ed is right, too much storage is never enough.  I built two tables with shelves similar in size to your project and I still need to double that again!  May as well keep building till you have no floor space, then build a raised floor and start over:)  Better yet, build shelves till I tell you to stop, then ignore me and keep building them.  Looks real nice though, I did a similar built-in in my livingroom in a cubby space where a wetbar used to be, I had 3 walls to start with!

Great Job Mike,

I'm still workin on this summers honey do's, and trying to find time tobuild that pellet trap of yours ! Your workin me to death buddy !!

I have five work tables covered with junk and projects now, three in the basement, one in the garage, and one in my back shed. And every time that I clean one off, I swear that I'll never let things go like that again, but I LIE !!

But Great Job Mike, looks GREAT !!!!

I know first hand that next to being functional  it doesn’t interfere with shooting off of his back porch.LOL

Thanks Guys and your right I'll never have enough storage. My shed used to be 10x10, now it's 2 story 12x20, full up and got more that needs togo in. Maybe the 20x30 shop that I'm going to add will help with that.

Ed, I hope to be able to finish those 2 stocks soon. I haven't been able to do anything with them in a few weeks, due to my back, ended up in the ER sunday mornin.

Gene, I guess I should have told you that I worked in my uncles cabinet shop, for a few summers when I was a kid. As soon as I'm able to get around alittle better, I will be adding another set of shelves, on the right side of the window. Any of those tools, or air gun stuff that you can't find room for, I'll gladly store it for you, hehe.

I can vouch personally for that cabinet.  I was over shooting w Mike last Fri and noticed how nice it was.

I just don't have room in my house for one like it.
