: Chomping at the bit for some trout...
: NMCA_Ron November 02, 2007, 03:03:32 AM
Local trout season officially opens tomorrow morning. I can hardly wait to get my new St.Croix/Shimano combo out to the lake. Mmmmm... grilled trout with fried taters and a side of homemade coleslaw. I can taste it now!

Best of luck, Ron!

How about a quick tutorial on your method of grilling the trout?

Personally, I like to clean the trout and remove the head before prepping it for the grill. Something about a fish looking at me as I stick a fork into it just is unsettling...

Anyway, I like to place the trout on a sheet of foil, fold some slices of onion and some minced garlic into the body cavity of the trout, lightly sprinkle some Italian dressing on it and then fold the foil loosely over the top. I then place it on the grill over medium heat for about 10-15 minutes, or until tender. Serve it up with a cold Diet Budweiser and some fried taters!

Is it lunch time yet???

The water is finally starting to cool off which will bring the grouper in closer. Hopefully we'll be able to get out soon.

Good luck. I have my week in Branson coming up in a week and I hope to have some luck as well. If you want to see some big browns go to Charteredwaters.com and view the fishing report. I think this is my 24th consecutive year of going this week. Interesting to see how places change from year to year.

John,

I caught my very first brown in Taneycomo, just below the Table Rock dam. Much to the chagrin of the local population of fly fisherman, I landed a 22-incher on (get this!) a Rapala shallow diving Shad Rap in hot mustard color on my Berkley rod with a Shimano Spirex reel. Those old boys had been fishing all morning long and hadn't had a bite on their flies. When they saw my first brown do the tail walk / lure toss and escape back to freedom, one of them yelled, "Those ain't bass, boy. Ya gotta PLAY 'em!" Thanks to his advice, I was able to land the next one. Once they saw what I was using, they all headed up to their pickup trucks to grab their crankbaits! That weekend was a blast. I hope to do it again.

I am headed out this afternoon with my brother. It is awfully windy, but we will try to get into a cove away from the wind. I will take my camera. I hope I catch something to take a pic of!

As luck would have it, I came down with a cold that not only kept me away from the lake, but also my job. I am finally back among the living today and feeling much better. Maybe this weekend I will be able to entice a couple trout to bite. Being sick really sux!

that you decided to stay awhile . Glad your feeling better and good luck next time. I've got another day on the lake planned for next Monday . I hope these cool fronts that we've had , hadn't affected the fishing in a negative way . We should hit a warming trend on the front of the next cold front to pass and have a new moon. Should be pretty good. kirby

Hey leftcoast (jason) you got any extra numbers out of crystal river or cedar key? Went fishing last WE and only got lil jacks and ladyfish, lots of activity in the barge canal but no keepers, thanks John

I will ask a couple of charter captains I know if the have numbers up that way. I know a couple of retired skippers from the nature coast area. Give about a week I'll see what i can dig up. What fish are you chasing? Went out about 12 miles on Sunday and got 2 keeper gags. Caught about a dozen shorts.
