I want to get one of these. Can anyone identify it?
It looks like it can fold up, and has a nice big table top.
It may not be a shooting bench, but it fills the bill for me.
This is a picture from a Westfield [Mass] gun club meet .
 Any help would be appreciated
-
that table is the best looking table I have seen for a right handed shooter.... Dang I want one of those Ed.. Now you gots me on the a search fer it now... he he he
I hope someone recognizes it and tells us where the have seen it....
I also like what looks like a home made bi-pod and the cheek pad...:)

after doing a little research, I think the guy who put the picture up was Bill Pratt, who uses the handle FTduffer.
Heard of him?
-
Nope!
-
I just tracked down Bill Pratt and sent him an e-mail
I hope he'll reply
I'll let you know if I get something.
-
my dear chap, you did a bang up job tracking him down..... :)
Thanks Ed

That's one good looking table. Yea it looks like it will fold up and roll away. Mine was made out of a cheap work brench and some plywood, put carpet on top just for looks, and to keep from scratching my pellet, guns that is LOL
-
Dr. Watson? ….he he he. Gene, with your Sumatra cannon you look more like Professor Moriarty :D
-
I got ahold of a gentleman named David Day, who built it, and was told the base was a Black and Decker Workmate with a plywood top with a 2x4 attatched to the bottom, that was then clamped in the top jaws.
I can't find the model Workmate that he used in the picture, and hope he can get back to me with whatever info is on the unit, but the WM 375 with handtruck [retail $79.95 at Aubuchon] is close, and would probably work with a little change to the shape of the top.
I still working on it.
-
I looked upt the Black and Decker WM375 One-Handed Folding WORKMATE. It is the same base as you stated. But the top looks like a molded plastic top. Does not look like wood. Sure glad you have found the source on this Ed. I am gonna go out and try to find one of these localy in preperation.
They sell them on line for around $70.00.
Gene
-
The top is used to hold down a plywood top he cut to the shape he wanted.
He attached a 2x4 to the bottom of the plywoodand clamped this in the "vise jaws" which is the plastic top or the workmate.
He put down some in/out carpet, and cut and cemented plastic pipe insulation around the edge.
My problem is with the legs and how they are when it is set up, and how it folds. The one he has has s clearly superior geometry forclearance and table-top orientation, imho.
The WM375 will probably work, just not as effectly.

If you dont want to pay for a B & D workmate at 70+ , you can do like I did, My generic work mate cost me 12.99 at pepboys, used a piece of 3/4" plywood, a little glue and a piece of carpte. made a hole in it for a carring handle. sets upeasly and if fairly stable. Only thing different, I made my permanet, I put blocks under the table and screw thru the holes in the original top into the wood under the top. Then put the carpet on top. works good for a inexpensive shooting table. OH , one more thing, I went to homedepto and got some plastic holes, that you put wires thru , piece of metal onthe bottom , makes for a nice pellet holder, just in case your like me and nkock them off the table.
-
:)
I want a light, table that I can modify to suit me perfectly, and that is easily portable.
I don't mind the $70 if I can get what I want. I'd like two--one for me, and one for my son when he comes over. The metal frame should lower the weight for compareable stiffness considerably. Its original application would make it well suited for a strong pedestle of a load-bearing table.
A mostly wooden setup would be too bulky and heavy.
I'm going to see if someone will sell me an old 375 in the newspapers or Craigs list.
You know of anyone with one to sell?:) )
-
Do you have a picture Buster? I always knock my pellets off the table..:) I have been thinking of what I could make to sit on the side of my table to hold the pellets.. :)
I like the idea of it being portable. Just throw it in the trunk and off hunting I go... he he
May have to spend more to get what Ed has shown us..
Gene
-
Me too Ed.. lol I am gonna keep lookin for one. No Pep Boys here in S.C. that I know of but I know Target has some..
Will keep lookin.. Keep me informed..
Gene
-
Gene , see my pic I posted on this. the two small holes are where I keep my pellets when shooting , the hole in the middle is where I carry it from when folded up,wihich folds down from the view in the pic.
-
Dang, I saw that pic yesterday..... duhhhhhhh...lol . Ya I see the it now clearly.. So the holes is where you keep a tin of pellets that you are using at the time you are shooting. The hole in the middle is the handle when you fold it up.. OK... Now I get the Picture...:)
How much does it weigh?

Found the bottom of the table.

-
Which one you getting Ed?
Gene
-
the above
The clearance under the table is better, and it folds up with one hand, the top being in the other hand
IMHO
-
works. This may be a better solution for us big boys..... I was kinda impressed after seeing the video on how it works. You may want to take a gander at this Ed..

can't get the video to play.
Oh, well
-
Essentially, everything is adjustable. Seat up, down, back and fourth. arm rest - up and down, left hand or right hand and also swivels. Also there is a ammo tray that is completly adjustable... The rest for barrel is adjustable.
Shows two guys shooting from the table with powder guns that have kick. Very sturdy. Also if you have a hitch on your truck or car, you can plug it into it.. :)
Gene
-
Now that is the thing to have if you do a lot of shooting. And for what you get as far as the construction, versatility and what it does, hard to beat for the money I would think.
-
=Ed ya found one I see, now you have to get the wood and finish it off.
The one Gene posted from Cabellas looks just a good for open range shooting.
You'll have to get one of the WM and set it up and post it after finish it
-
I ended up buying the one from Cabelas... I have nothing to compare it with except my own home made table, but I can tell you it is one fine piece of furniture. Very Very easy to assemble and adjust. You can vertually adjust it to what ever makes you comfortable. I am amazed at how sturdy it weighs around 38 lbs. The bottom bar is square channel like the tounge on a trailer. The rest is 1" tubing. The seat is good size with back rest. The seat is a very hard and thick plastic with lots of ribbing for strength/ Same for the elbow rest and accessories tray. It comes with a sand bag that you fill yourself. I used rice..:).. The main stucture is 100% metal. The seat, tray, gun rest and elbow rest is very good plastic. I weigh around 255 and it fits me great...:) I might add that it comes with a carrying bag.
One of the nicest things about the table is that I can just remobe back legs and inser into my trailer hitch and carry it to where I do alll my squirrel hunting...:)

I finally built my shooting table from the Black and decker workmate WM 375.
It is debateable as to how interesting a wooden table can be, but I thought I'd share with you the object of this thread.
My first shooting table, my gas grille
For my new table, I used the WorkMate to make the table top from 1/2 inch BC exterior plywood. I was going to use 3/4, but it would have been too heavy. I put a dado in a 1x2 and put and gued and screwed the edge of the 1/2 plywood in the dado on 3 1/2 sides, along with a strengthening brace on the bottom to make it much more ridged. I cut the corners so no one would get hurt on them. I've got to put a handle on sometime.
There is a center clamping piece is screwed and glued to the bottom of the plywood that is held by the WorkMate's top "vise" jaws. They lift a little when clamped hard, so I put 2 alumninum box members as cross-pieces that were screwed against the bottom, pulling the table jaws flat so there would be no table-top "wobble" or movement. I used old lawnmower handle "wingnuts" to make it easy to take down for transport.
I painted the whole deal with 2 coats of urethane spar varnish and let it dry overnight.
Next day, I fitted some 3/8 firm foam sheet, with a terrible picture on it that was on sale, on the top, and it was done. I have to glue the foam down and fold it over the edge and staple it down for a soft edge for my stomach.
It is just at the right level for shooting in a regular chair, so I think it will be easy if I take it somewhere. I made it a bit oversize to keep a few extra containers of pellets away from my elbows, ans the sandbag, and maybe room for a set of binoculars, or to mount a mast for a spotting scope., or for a coke. If it presents a problem, I'll just cut it back a bit if or make a different one if I need to.
This is my shooting trap made from steel-clad wood, which is very quiet. I have a dealie that slips on that lets 8 1/2 x 11 targets hang in front.

Ed, show us a picture. :)

you have to sort of post "blind" as it were...type the message then check the box for "attach a file after posting"
Submit then attach your pic then submit again...like this:

Hello,
That is a great looking table. You did a good job on it. If you don't mind me asking, about how much money do you have in it ? Best of luck...

1 B&D WorkMate WM375 "one hand folding" $69.95 + $8.00 shopping [Amazon]
I can use the WM as a work tabel, so the cost of that can be split.
1/2 of 1 - 4' x 8' 1/2 " BC exterior $16.00 / 2 $8.00
[HomDep used to sell half sheets, but no more]
1 - small Gorilla waterproof glue $ 6.00
10ft - 1" x 2" #1 poplar $ 8.00
2 - 3/8" thick Rubber pads$12.00 on sale
Had the screws, nuts, bolts, aluminum, varnish, hanging around.
My wife hadn't got around to "cleaning up" what was left of my shop since we now have a "guest room" and bath where it used to be.
-
I forgot this final picture of the table folded up.
-
nice work
-
Ed that turned out really good. How sturdy is it and what are the dimensions of the top.
Did you get the WM on that online store you posted.
now where are the cup holders LOL. if you have a hole saw , need that hole to keep from spilling any drinks on that mural top LOL. As for a handle, I cut one directly in the middle , in between the two tops for my bench , might work for you. again the hole saw will cut two holes and jig saw to cut the opening. just a suggestion.
-
Congratulations Ed... That is one fine shooting table. Very nice workmanship, I may add. With those wheels you are fully portable...
Thanks for the Pictures Ed.
Gene
-
33" x 42", with a slightly angular 16 x 18" cutout. A bit bigger than it has to be, but I thought a more expansive table would be more fun. The way the WM is supported, it lets you get right under the table top, making the top very stable in spite of the size. The braces make it quite stable for 1/2" ply.
It's very solid, and I'm sure that a 3/4" top would make it like a pool table. The wheels on the WM make it easy to move over smooth level ground.
I bought it on Amazon from LaPollo's
I'm giving some thought as to whether I want to cut holes in the top, and am considering screwing some sort of holder to the top.
I'm going to hang a handle right on the front to make it easier to handle, rather than use a template to route out a" built-in" one,.
-
Thanks Ed. Ive been changing my bench design around some, using the dimensions from this bench plan,
http://www.aeroaces.com/bench
only I made it 30" x 36" and using a 3/4" plywood, its available and at no cost. As for the holes , I may change my mind on that as well, but who knows. Only added feature is a 35" x 3" board underneath to extend out 2' past the edge of the top, to use for my chrony, saw that on the Tuna's site once. that way when your ready to chrony its there , just set up.
Now that WM, if its that sturdy with that size board on in and a 3/4 would be like a pool table I may just order one myself to try and see. Plus , ya can always use another WM , right. good excuse to buy one, ( in case the boss asks LOL ).
-
The MW374 is rated at 350 lbs, so it's plenty strong, and quite ridgid, with the noted exception of the top "vise" jaws crowning.
I hadn't thought about a chrony, but the shelf, if removable, would be a nice idea.
I want to get the most basic "master", which is what I believe they call the model with the remote readout.
Arethese ever available reconditioned, or is it just the F1?
-
http://www.shootingchrony.com/
I don't know if they have any refurb in the master or not. I have a F1, simple to use and for me its ok. not into the real " speed" of most airguns, but it does let you know if you gun is shooting .I just ordered a WM , 68 and change, so I'll see how it works with my new top.
OH that slide, I just used a chunk of 1"x 3" oak I had laying around, use three stove bolts. put two in front and one in back. lined the holes up so when not in use the same three bolts will keep it anchored to the bottom. it works like a charm. now when I do chrony my guns, I don't have to drag out the camera tripod , set up the distance just right and hope its ok. it was a pia before , now it's a snap. OH the old way, I shot my chrony and had to buy a new one. some lessons are learned the hard way. LOL
-
There should be some sort of trade-in policy on shot-up chronys.
Since there isn't, I like the remote readout with a metal protector over the sensor array.
:)
-
Their trade in valve and replacement price was the same as D & R prices . still have the old one collecting dust. from what the tech at chrony said, it cant be repaired . DuH, how do they get them to sell refurbs .
the remote sensor one , is good for if you want to find down range fps more than muzzle fps. either are good, just a matter of preference.

Gene said that I was the only kid on the block that didn't have a shooting table. We got big blocks around here too. Anyhow, I ain't so good at working with wood. Anyhow, after kicking and swinging 3x4's at me and gun butting me and him telling me that I wouldn't be allowed to shoot with him anymore, Gene finally convinced me to order the one from Cabellas. Ordered it last night Gene so you can let up on me a little now8) (the sun glasses cover my black eyes from the physical abuse suffered at his hands) ...lol...So there.....
-
I sent you some Angus steaks for those eyes.. he he he .....
