Hmmm... less vibration. I like it!

I wonder if Gene or Bob would be able to do this installation. It will be interesting to see what becomes of an aftermarket gas spring retrofit kit.

And then after Gene and Bob get to do it...that would be so cool if aftermarket gas spring cartridges were eventually available to the general public. That kind of mod is right up my alley.

Actually, the Theoben ram is $145 + $25 is you have Dave Slade do the install.  But it's a very easy installation, if you can change out a steel spring, you can install a gas ram.  I did the conversion on a CFX I used to have.  What really has me curious is how someone got around Theoben's patent on the gas ram technology.  They've had that patent locked up for years, and have a reputation for being very aggressive about prosecuting any attempted infringements.  It will be interesting to see how all this plays out.  Later.

Let me tell you, that Pyramid has money invested in this venture, I am sure.... and that $200.00 Whisper will cost at least $500.00 after they add everything up...:) Tom has written a very good article prior to this one talking about the Gamo Whisper. In his article he stated almost everything the Bob and I did when we did our reviews. It is a good air rifle and the stock moderator does quiet the report down probably by half but did nothing for the action noise. When we tested our two Whispers we did notice that accuracy was extremely good for an out of the box air rifle by Gamo. With the addition of the GRT-III trigger and a Turbo Tune it made the Whisper a different air rifle to shoot. Accuracy increased, action noise decreased and cocking and shooting was smooth as glass. I do not think that what will be gained by Pyramid installing a ram would make that much of a difference verses cost. Even though he mentioned that the GRT-III was a fantastic trigger with the ram modification. It will be a high dollar Gamo after Pyramid is done and what will the warranty be?

I think you hit the nail on the head Gene.

I was thinking the same thing guy's. What about the patents, the cost and warranty issues. Theoben may not take kindly to a Yank airgun retailer selling copies of their patented products. That is, if the patents still apply. IF the patents expired, then others could (and presumably will) start developing and marketing them. Cost wise, it could make most Gamo's just as expensive as a HW, Webley or RWS/Diana. Not that Gamo's aren't good guns for the money. But I think that has been one of their selling points, cost (and very high velocity #'s ) Add another $100 + dollars and the equation changes. Will the installation of the gas ram negate the Gamo factory warranty? Did anyone at Pyramyd Air bother to ask? Will PA tell customers if it does void it? Who then handles the warranty repair/replacement on the gas spring modified Gamo's, PA? Who will work on the gas spring if it fails? How long will the spring be warranteed for? A good idea, but personnally, I see too many risks and questions. If I wanted a gas spring, I would either buy a Beeman/HW, a Theoben or a LISCENCED gas ram to fit my rifle of choice. I think you would be better off to spend the money for the gas spring upgrade and give it to a tuner such as Charlie Da Tuna,  et al, and tune the gun ( metal spring) and spring for (no pun)the GTX trigger. But that's just my opinion.  Others may vary.

Nathan

its said to not go against the theoben patent, and pa will have a warranty...i think its a good idea, because they say its very cheap, and it offers new, unexperianced airgunners a chance at a customized gun...after all, isn't  a gamo all about introducing inexperienced airgunners to new things?...i bet more gamos are sold per yr then any other springer brand out there, just because theyre one of the cheapest...most ppl dont know their potential...they just think of as a good deal...so, if they can get a gas rammed magnum springer for around say $300, its a really good deal, and will probably introduce ppl to gas springs, and all of those posibilities...just my thoughts...i like to think that the more ppl we can get into airgunning, and knowledgable about airgunning, the better.

Dave I agree with the idea of more new airgunners. And for sure the lower priced Gamo's are diamonds in the rough. The way I read it was that Pyramid has no plans on selling the rams out right. Like I said, I am sure they have a bit invested in this venture and you bet they are gonna get every dime they can out of it..:) But on the other hand maybe this will bring others out of the closets to make and sell rams on the open market to all of us airgun addicts..:) So maybe next year we will have converted a few of our Gamo's over to gas rams.. just a thought..:)

yes..  I for one wold put a gasram into my stutzen..  with it's looks that will make it a $500 rifle..  she is dead acurate if you can get the hold right :) gasram will certainly help with that!  sign me up. I have though of trying to make one myself but am interested in why they are so expensive as the parts, that I would imagine would go into it, do not come close to what they are sold for..  Anyways.. anyone with a broken one that one can tear appart and use as a template?

You know, I've sometimes wondered whether it would be possible to find a lift support that would fit. You know those things that are used in autos to hold hood/hatch open. They are quite cheap so if we could one that would be easily adaptable ...

my thoughts exactly. now I know...  Cars are not airguns but those things last for years! what would the presure difference be though?

Just called Pyramid Air, and they haven't heard anything about it. The girl I talked to in sales even checked with one of their techs.

Here in Europe we install theoben aftermarket gasrams for a while already in gamo's.They are quite expensive;135 euro's(x 1.40 dollars) !!.That makes them indeed as expensive as aWeinrauch but it works good !!

Think I'll pass on the gasram, and put that money toward another...springer!
