: B50 cocking issue...
: daved December 16, 2007, 04:49:36 PM
Finally got my shop cleaned up enough to set up my indoor "winter" range, so I decided it was time to run some different pellets through the B50 I got from Dano in TX.  Even powered down, this thing definitely likes heavy pellets.  Everything was going along just fine, when it suddenly started getting much harder to cock.  This got steadily worse, to the point that my hand and shoulder are still aching a couple of hours later :-).  Okay, I'm stubborn and not too bright some times, but it was shooting so well, I didn't want to stop.  Other than put air in it, I haven't done anything to this gun since I got it from Dan.  Any ideas as to what the problem is?  I've got "The Book", but I haven't found anything like this in it.  Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.  Later.

Sorry to hear that Dave, but I think that B-50 was cursed..:) Na maybe Dano can shed some lite on it for you.

Good Luck

I would guess soft metal is either scoring or binding.Striker might need to be polished and lubed.

Nope, not cursed, it shoots too damn well to be cursed :-)!  It just needs a little love, and Dan ran out for this gun :-).  Granted, I'm only shooting it at 10 yards at the moment, but I was one holing 5 shot groups with CPH's, Kodiaks, and believe it or not, Beeman Perfect Rounds.  Velocity looks to be in the high 800's, and shot count looks good, too.  Need to retest velocity, I discovered I was getting false readings from the air blast.  Had the muzzle too close.  I've been putting it off, or rather, I just haven't had time to get to it, but it looks like it's about time I opened her up.  Will keep ya'll posted.  Later.

.......it's cursed!

just let me know when you have pulled out all of your hair and decide you've lost that loving feeling:)  I have a really nice B26, have I mentioned that?  I still suspect the hammer sear is hanging up on the hammer, could also be why the gun is now hard to cock.  J's idea sounds good too, those things are real rough on the inside, maybe a little hammer polishing would help.  Maybe I'll let you borrow my sawsall so you can cut that thing in half:)  I really do think it's cursed, but I thought it only hated me.

I'm no expert, but have you tried removing that screw, #41? I seem to recall that it can cause that problem by either backing out or being a little too tight a fit and getting worse after wearing.
