I've been wanting to make a silent pellet trap for some time now and I finally got around to doing it.  My design was inspired by the full size AGE silent pellet trap that is sold commercially, except I wanted something smaller.  Most of the targets I shoot are just drawn on flash cards, and propped against my backstop with a rock or two.  Its frustrating when its windy, which it is most of the time, having the flash cards blow out of position in the middle of a group so I needed to make something that would hold them securely.  A clip on top would still leave the flash card vulnerable to the wind, so I decided to cut notches in some 2x4's to hold the flashcards in place.  I did that with a table saw, and after the notch was drilled in one long piece of 2x4, I cut it down to size to properly fit a card.  Then I screwed it all together, and added the top block for stability and asthetics.  I'm going to buy some plumbers puddy for the backstop, and put that in behind where the cards go as well as a piece of plywood or something to hold it all in place.

I bought two 14oz cups of plumbers puddy, $2.30 each for the trap and put on a peice of scrap wood to hold it all together.

I have a Dr. Joe trap from Archer Airguns ($69 plus shipping) and I think yours cost a bit less and will work fine. You could also make it fit index cards or regular playing cards (very cheap at Costco or used). Thanks for the post!

Thanks for sharing Josh. Nice simple design, easy to build and should last along time. I'm not sure how well the plumbers puty will do, but electrical duct seal will work great. I think the plumbers puty will get hard and britle over time.

Your right.  I re-checked Tom Gaylord's guide to make a silent pellet trap and he had advised against plumbers puddy.  I had been thinking all along he was suggesting it!  Thanks for the warning.

Do you know of any stores that sell it?  Home depot is the only store I can think of that might have it here in Hawaii.  Thanks.

Home depot has it in the electrical dept. IIRC it's $2 for a 1lb block. You could also get it from an electrical supply house, could get a 5lb block for about $8, or at least that's the price here.
