It was about 20 degrees yesterday afternoon but I really wanted to get to the duck farm and see if I could snipe some starlings so I grabbed the Goldfinger R9 .22 cal along with a container of Predator pellets for any small game encountered and a container of superdomes for the starlings. Arrived at the duck farm to see literally thousands of starlings at the feeders and in the leafless trees above them. To say I was excited was an understatement !!
Got out of the truck and found a howling wind ripping across the open duck farm pens that made it so cold that I could barely feel my face after just a few minutes, but with all those birds who cared, not me :)
Got all geared up, cocked the Goldfinger, went to insert a superdome and realized something was wrong. At first I thought I'd grabbed the wrong container of pellets then it hit me,,,,, I grabbed the wrong Goldfinger :(
Here I was standing here, birds everywhere, with .22 cal pellets in my pockets and a .177 cal gun in my hands. Boy did I feel stupid !! There wasn't really enough time to drive home get the right gun and return so I did the only thing possible under the circumstances.........................................
I put the air rifle away, lifted the back seat of the truck and retrieved the 12 gauge auto and 2 boxes of #2 steel shot I store there and I went duck hunting :)
Had pretty good shooting until sunset and wound up with couple of fat ducks for dinner.. :)
Next time I grab a gun where I own both calibers I'm gonna double check the caliber before I leave the driveway... :)

Great story Jeff, LMAO !!
I love it !! I have never bought as many lovely guns as you, I'm kind of a one gun guy, although I know how attractive those Goldies are !!!
But you made lemonade buddy, and duck goes well with lemonade, or what ever you like to drink. Great story, and fine shootin !
You have started off the New Year WELL ! HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!

You made out better than you think Jeff! I 'd certainly prefer to go duck hunting than shoot Starlings!
What, no pics of the fluffy ducklings? :-)
I just cleaned out my son's old closet (different bdrm) and ran across a fluffy duckling book I used to read to him when he was younger so he would go to sleep. I am trying to make room for new airguns I plan on buying this year :) The wife tried putting her foot down and said if I don't sell some of the firearms I can't get any more guns. I laughed.. Now time to get a new gun cabinet me thinks.. :)

Jeff, it happens to the best of us. I once went hunting for KUDU with my .303 British, and i took the 30-06 cartidges by mistake. There i was with only 1 rifle and no ammo to shoot. Had to sit back and watch the other guys having "fun". Luckily it wont happen with the airrifle as we are only allowed .177 in South Africa. If we want a .22 we have to license it as a firearm, and along with that about 10 miles of redtape. It takes anywhere between 6 & 18 MONTHS to be "GRANTED" a license, they dont necessary have to comply with your request to license a firearm.
I know its a drag but unfortunately i must live here and abide by the laws, However STUPID they might be.
I hope you enjoy eating your ducks. What recipe are you going to use for them?
Bon apetit!!

Great Hunt buddy though, think truck gun :) Ed

Your're right Ed,,, I should keep an air rifle in the truck,,,, I think I'll designate that job to one of the S1K's I have.
As for the recipe for the ducks,,,, I have quite a few but one of my favorites is to simply wrap the bird swith strips of bacon and place them in the rotisserie until they are done. The rotisserie keeps them nice and moist and juicy and as for the bacon,,,, I believe bacon just makes any food taste better :)

Yeah Jeff... I think they refer to them as a "Truck Gun" or a "Bush Beater" so thinks like that don't happen. I have one but I keep it in the house...lol... along side the pellets.
-
Jeff you 're too funny. Almost every recipe you 've written about, involves bacon!

Bacon,,,,, natures perfect food :)
Only thing better than bacon is deep fried bacon :)

Yep, that's exactly why I bought my Big Cat, as a "truck gun" to go in the back of the cab in my Ranger. So far it's been a "door gun." Leans against a door, ready to whack grackles.........lol

I think I'm gonna take one of my S1K's and keep it in the truck along with a supply of pellets. I should have done that a long time ago. I just have to figure out the best way to store it in the truck so it will stay zero'd in despite all the bouncing around of the truck. Have to work on that on my days off. There have been quite a few times I"ve stopped by the duck farm just to look around and had birds within range,,,, if I had a gun in the back I could've gotten in some quick shooting.

I have a bunch of different gun cases, largely for my powderbuners. I have a black balistic nylon, thickly padded GunMate case that I use for the Big Cat. I think one of the inexpensive Doskocil Gun Guard hard cases would be a good bet too.

I'll definitely look into those ideas :)
