: good inexpensive scope for the discovery plus mounts?
: January 18, 2008, 11:50:29 AM
Would the natcheszz bush scope with AO be a good choice i think 3-12x40mm AO, i guess that a heavy duty rating is not needed on pcp.  Should i look for higher than 12 power for the long shots.

That is a good scope and I own one as well, and that is good enough for me out to 60 or so yards with my bad eyes...:) But that is my opinion and scope power is generally a personal thing.

Scope power depends on the intended use of the rifle. For plinking and hunting , a 4x12x40 AO will be plenty . Actually for hunting , a 4x or 6x is fine for me. For target work it's different IMO. When I first started shooting field target, I shot hunter style exclusively and was limited to 12x power max. I usually shot less than 20 hits out of a 50+ target match. In October , I bought a Bushnell Banner 6x24x40 and put it on my TX200HC. That month's match, I shot a 25 out of 52 , the next month I shot a 39 out of 54 targets , on a tough course, on a windy ,cold day. So , the extra power did help me improve my score in field target. Someone at the club once told me , you can't hit what you can't see. Some of the targets have small kill zones and after only a couple of shooters the orange paint gets knocked off the KZ's and without the extra power , you can't really make out the center of the kill zone. I'm actually thinking of going to a 8x32x40. Some of the guys shoot 35x scopes and up to 50X . It all depends on what you're going to be shooting. kirby

David, which model  8-32X40 were you intending to buy?

LOL ; Heck Gene, I'm just in the wishing stage. But , I was thinking of a Bushnell 4200 8x32x40 until I found out I couldn't get it in a mildot. I've got a BSA Platinum  8x32x44 in mildot but it won't focus down to 10 yards . I've seen the side focus BSA's in mildot and 8x32x44 , but I don't know how close it will focus. Still in the looking mode. Got any suggestion? kirby

Just curious David.. :) I just love scope... lol... The ones I can see clearly through. I do not think I have anything that I would need one of those powerfull scope for..:) 32 magnification is just to much for me, cause I cannot hold steady enough with that kind of power... hehe

: just looked through 3-12x40 glass

Thing i noticed was the pwr was higher with bsa compared to barsaka optics but each has there plus and minus the mil dot and light weight barska are great but i suspect the BSA is better quality and metal lens caps plus.  I am thinking do they make 3-24-44 or 50 AO?
: forgot i also have a marlin nickel 22lr i could use a scope

The optronics little scope wasnt doing it for me.

I noticed the same thing when comparing a Bushnell Legend 5x15x40 and a Simmons whitetail classic 6.5x20x50 . I put them both on 12x and compared them ; the Simmons picture was considerably larger . I then turned the Bushnell up to 15X and the Simmons was still bigger and clearer on 12x. I returned the Bushnell , I hadn't mounted it , and ordered another WTC. The only thing I miss is the mildots. kirby

Check the Busnhell Sportsman 3-9x32 with AO and target turrets. The Disco is a small stature air gun. I think this scope would be perfect on it. Decent optics and a lifetime warranty. Bushy stands behind their stuff.

I got the Leapers 3-9X 32mm AO Mildot from Optics Planet, $39.95 delivered. Any decent 1" mounts will work, I don't expect the Disco to kick much.
