: BSA Ultra .177
: London177 January 27, 2008, 02:34:57 AM
I bought one of these on Friday for a knock down price as it has a small blemish on the stock. I am most impressed with it so far and it is a very accurate shooter with RWS pellets. Downside is I had to buy a diving tank :(
I did think about a pump but I am lazy....hehe.
Anyone else on here have an Ultra?
regards,
Alan :)

I have taken notice to the BSA build style and love there lines. The Ultra is no exception..:) I have one PCP and it is an FX Cyclone. It has synthetic stock and is very consistant and accurate so I do not need any more PCP's..:) But one of the BSA springers is on my list and hopefully in a couple months I will be a proud owner of one....:)

Thanks for sharing Alan

Barry :)
I am not even an average shot but it is very accurate I think. I do not do it justice. I think an owner would need to be very good to out-shoot it. It is so handy it makes shooting less tiring, not as handy as my carbine QB78 mind you! I can see a lot shooters who use hides liking it. I am just a plain plinker/target shooter so I'll never really use it for what is was designed for. However if I am out again in the sticks and see a fat rabbit I will see what it does :)

Yes Gene it is nicely made. BSA still make nice guns. My first airgun was a BSA Meteor back in the early 1970's. Everybody had one back then in .177. As common as bicycles.
FX make nice guns. I saw one or two in the store. I almost bought a Brocock take-down rifle but this was so cheap I could not pass it up. BSA make a nice synthetic stocked XL Tactical in .22 which is very nice.......hmmm

Beautiful gun you've got  Alan. I like the richness of the dark stock. I've had one since last September. I absolutely love it. It's incredibly accurate, shooting virtually flat from 17 to 40 yards using a 30 yard zero point,  and easy to shoot. The power has been adjusted up to 15 fpe and it likes Crosman Premier lights(7.9 gr) , spitting them out at 900+fps for a good 20 shots per fill. I've found if I just fill it to 3100 psi instead of 232 bar( 3365 psi), the first 5 shots are more consistant and accurate. I'm using a Centerpoint 4-16x40 AO scope on it and plan to use for Field Target shoots this year.

Hi Ric,
Yes it is a little beauty :)
I am getting about 25 sweet shots from a standard fill at the moment but to my suprise I can still another "good" 25 shots that are fine for hitting 1" inch discs at a tad under 30 yards and they seem to be quite close to full power too :)
I had assumed because of the smallish air tank 30 shots would be the max' so that is a bonus. When I finally get a chrono I'll see what the power really is. Have you tried a heavier pellet like Bisley Magnums? They weigh in at 10.6 and the trajectory is still fairly flat :)
My scope is a Walther 3-12x50 and it is fine especially as it was not too expensive.
For the money the Ultra is a cracking gun and I think I'll be hanging on to it for a long time.
Best wishes to Arizona,
Alan :)

Alan, I Just tried some Crosman Premier Heavies, 10.5 GR and I was getting sub 1/2" groups at 50 yards. They shoot about 800 fps. I need to shot them over various distances to find the trajectory curve. I plan on using the gun for FT, so I need to find that out to know what holdover to useat the close and far targets using a 30 yard zero to see if it's any better that the CPL's is currently use. I also tried 8.44 JSB Exacts( a little looser group) and some 8.9 Beeman FTS that were also very good. I was impressed with the grouping of all of them as it was the first time I'd shot 50 yard groups. I later shot a fill until the accuracr went away and put 25 shots in a 1" group at 30 yards aith an additional within a 1-1/2" circle. It's pretty impressive, Love this little gun

The fit and finish on the BSA guns is excellent.  I was really happy with my BSA Superstar and always thought it was a very nice looking gun.  Now I just need some cashola and I can buy a few of them:)

Wonder how many people get into airguns and end up being divers?  Haha!

Good news Ric and nice to see you are getting such nice groupings. I used some JSB Exacts last week and had decent groupings although I have found RWS Superdomes to be the business. Since I bought the Ultra a month ago and let a couple of friends shoot with it they have since gone out and bought one! They are using them for pest control, rats on factory premises. I hope to take it around a FT course next week and see how I do. I am quite sure the BSA is better than I can ever shoot....
Best wishes,
Alan

Go on  Dan buy an Ultra, you know it makes sense :)
A few days after buying my divers bottle I met a guy through work who's into scuba diving. I told him the price I paid for my bottle and he offered me one of his spares for free :) They cost around US$350-400 in the UK :(
I might start diving now but the seas are freezing around Britain :( hehe

Alan
