: hunter extreme, BSA?
: frizzlefry February 05, 2008, 11:10:15 AM
I recently purchased a hunter extreme that is made in england. Is this rifle made by BSA? and if so what is Bsa's equivalent model.
If anyone can help me I would appreciate any insight to this model. Thanks

I have a .22 caliber GAMO 1250 that was manufactured in England by BSA.  I wasn't aware they are manufacturing the Hunter Extreme in England  but that's definitely  a plus for you.   How does she shoot????

it cocks really crunchy, and shoots with alot of twang. I might be spoiled by my tuned shadow, but I really don't like it as it is.  I see that Charlie won't tune them. I emailed airgunwerks and he suggested a gas ram, I wasn't aware of that possibilty and am considering it.
I put in Charlie's trigger,  it didn't have as much of an effect as it did in my shadow but I figure it is due to the heavier spring in the extreme.
It says made in England right on it.

I know Bob won't tune them,,, I think the only one he ever tuned was Genes (also a 1250), which is now proudly hanging on Shadows (Ed) gun wall.

Why don't you shoot it a bit and see if it smooths out some??  My .22 cal 1250 was never tuned and shoots very well, is extremely accurate and I can't even begin to describe how powerful it is :)

That gun is my small game powerhouse rifle !!  Knocks the stuffings outa whatever critter it's aimed at.  :)

Anyway,,, would be interesting to find out how many other Hunter Extremes are made in England.  Keep us up to date on your progress with the rifle.....

Yes my big ol 1250 .22 is from across the pond also and she's a smooth shooter. A good lube tune with the proper lube's will settle her down some and just keep shootin her and the Golden trigger does help when trying to get this big gal pointed at a varment. Ed

I also own the EXTREME,it is made by BSA for GAMO..i don't believe there is an equivilent BSA,it was just the same with the 1250,i believe that also was made by BSA..The extreme is a nice rifle but .177 don't serve the purpose for this powerhouse..22 would have been good, .25 better....(DON'T USE RAPTORS IN THIS GUN) you will regret it....good luck!

Welcome to the GTA Forums Frank

This is the first time I heard some one who has a Gamo's Hunter Extreme with bad spring twang.

This is a great rifle just wrong caliber .22 or .25 would have been the way to go. But I know it only comes in .177, If the twang continues I would see if you could find some one to tune it try Beeman, they tune high end rifles that is not theirs but I don't know if they do Gamo's Hunter Extreme if it is made by BSA they might. It is a keeper (big time in my book!!) try heaver pellets the heaviest you can find.

I do not know if it is a BSA's or the equivalent model but I will ask around

Here is a challenge
Is their a barrel maker out there that good make a .25 or .22 caliber for this rifle
Or is their a barrel that would change out with the .177

Now that would be a air rifle!!

Happy Hunting

Each Air Gun should have a purposes it is not all about velocity or power its about walking away after a day of shooting,Smiling looking down and saying "God I Love this rifle"

I thought Gamo owned BSA. I thought they bought up either most (controlling interest) or all of it several years back when BSA was in financial trouble. I could be wrong though.
If you want it tuned I believe Rich can tune a Gamo 1250. He also can make custom barrel shrouds and could even re-barrel it to .22 or .25. I have never personally dealt with him but others who have speak highly of his work.

I don't believe that GAMO owns BSA,in 2002 they took on distribution of GAMO products with-in the U.K.....BSA was founded in 1861,it was in 1933 that they came out with their first break barrel......in fact over50% of BRITISH  military weopons were supplied by BSA in the 2nd WW....There is definitely some history there...i sure hope that GAMO doesn't own them..... I am not taking anything away from GAMO  i own the EXTREME, they produce good guns,i just prefer English or German products better than some of the others out there....

From the BSA Corp. website:

1986 BSA Guns liquidated, bought by Gamo and renamed BSA Guns (UK) Ltd

2002 BSA took on the distribution of Gamo products in the UK

*********************
The BSA rifles are still produced in Birmingham, in their plant. Gamo just owns a controlling interest in the company.

Yep Joe, as noted in my post, Gamo owns a controlling interest in BSA, but the rifles are still made in the BSA Birmingham factory, by BSA.

Gamo makes four wood stocked Hunters,The Hunter Sport, Shadow Sport w/wood stock, The Hunter Pro, Shadow Sport, polymer barrle rifle w/ nicer wood stock, the Hunter Elite, S1K w/ Viper type shrouded barrel and upgrade scope, and the Hunter Extreme which is the Gamo 1250 in upgraded wood and with a shrouded barrel. The Hunter Extreme has the brutal, high power, english made power plant.

Might be an 890. Is it standard, S1K metal barrel, rubber butt pad with white line spacer, wood stock, cocking aid on the end of the barrel?
