: Short Shadow .177 Hunt
: longislandhunter August 18, 2006, 02:27:26 PM
Finished all my yard work around 3 pm so grabbed the .177 Shadow, a tin of Superdomes,  and  headed for the duck farm to do a little pest control.  Arrived at my usual shooting location to find one of the other guys already there blasting away with his 28 gauge shotgun.... needless to say the starlings wouldn't stay in one place long enough to provide me any decent shooting.  I did manage to nail 2 starlings and a crow but that was it.   Switched to stalking woodchucks but the 3 chucks I saw all made me long before I could get close enough for any shots.  Plan on heading back very early tomorrow morning with the CFX to hopefully put a dent in the starling population.

bah shotguns, messing up a perfectly good hunt.

those chucks were probably already half-spooked from the shotgun blasts.

Hey jeff...why dont you try a evening hunt?...the grounhogs should be out in full force and also you could hunt two times a day,1 at morning 1 at night.....

I have in the past gone in both the mornings and the evenings, but it's not always easy to get away from all the "chores" twice a day.  That's why I usually go in the late afternoons so I have the option of shooting birds or woodchucks.  Matter of fact just finished my yard work about 10 minutes ago and will be heading off to the farm in about 5 minutes.  You get any squirrels with that Shadow yet Yote???? I know you said the season is open by you.......
