Is it possible to damage the spring and or seal if this happens? He says it jusr makes "POOOOOF sound like the air is released slowly.TIA

Sorry to say, But yes. I did it to mine a few times before I sent it to CDT for a tune. The spring was bent. After it happened I noticed the sound made when firing changed. It sounded more
twangy" This may not be the case with your friends CFX. He could send it to CDT for a tune and get a new spring. Mine came back much nicer than new.

I've seen relatively new springs that were bent that came out of a gun that was never dry-fired.
Manufacturing flaws can cause that - If the wire diameter or temper isn't consistent, the spring can bend.

If the sound it makes firing changed after firing with the breech open, then that would indicate possable damage. Mine sounded twangy.
