: Does Anyone Ever Think About Cloth Scope Covers
: Gene_SC February 24, 2008, 06:46:58 AM

I am thinking of manufacturing cloth scope covers that will cover your scopes and protect themwhen not in use. They will have elastic built into them so they will fit snuggly around your scopes. It is just a thought and wanted to run it accross the GTA members to seewhat you allthink. I am open for as much feedback as possible.

Thanks
Gene

Sound's like a idea buddy, my CO2 warmer's are in a holding pattern until I get moved but the first prototype is done. :) I was wondering though will the cloth cover's be waterproof or repel water cause you know how I like to hunt in the white cold stuff hehehe. Ed

Well Ed, my idea is stilla bit in it's infancy stage but the answer will be yes. I had thought about that and depending on material used or even 3M water repellent. There may even be several different materials. I just am looking to see if the idea is even feasible at this time. I know I have seen pictures of them in catalogs before but they are way expensive. I think I can produce them a heck of allot cheaper and still use good quality materials.

And for Dano.. :) My fingers are to BIG to get caught up in a sewing machine.. hehe

Great idea Gene,

They did have them out years ago, made then out of plether with a soft cloth lining.

I looked for them some years ago, but couldn't find them.

I am now using medical hair nets, in blue to keep the dust off mu shooters. :)

I be in line when you start selling them !

Gene I'm sure you have material lined up but .8-1.0 mm neoprene would work great and may not need the elastic. Just a thought

Gene... I was just thinking about the same thing last night, while plinking with my QB-79. I'ts N|S 4-12 X Airking scope comes with these crappy plastic scope covers in yellow. I cant see clearly through them so i usualy toss them aside. I said to my buddy Simon that we must try and make something from thick cloth, or wetsuit material to cover the scope and protect against bumps at the same time.

I would take one with the GTA Logo, but i dont know how much the postage would be to South Africa?? Maybe even a couple times what the cover costs i reckon!!.

Great idea by the way!!!

Thanks Johan,

I have allot of scopes and most have the plastic caps with elastic string. The elastic string gets old and stretches from taking them on and off so much. My Nikko Sterling scopes the caps fall apart. The only good scope lens cover are on the BSA's. The screw on caps. I know there are lots of folks out there that have the same issues as you and me with scope covers. Like I said above, I am just thinking about it now and have not actually done any shopping for the materials to make them with. I will keep everyone posted on the idea. So if anyone thinks this is a bad risk, let me know..:)
