: TF79T on HPA oddness
: DanoInTx March 01, 2008, 12:45:32 PM
Just wondering as I know there are other guys/gals shooting regulated HPA guns, has anyone else ever noticed a spike in power on the first shot after a long settling period?  I've noticed this before and really noticed it today after doing a little work on my TF79T, my first shot across the chrony was 935fps with Gamo Hunters, then each and every shot after that was substantially slower, down in the mid 800's but VERY consistant.  I know just enough about air regulators to be dangerous, but maybe someone else can explain how a regulator could give a higher pressure after settling, maybe a bad seal?  Kinda worries me since I have 3000psi on one side going into what should be a much lower pressure going into the gun.  Anybody have any ideas?

Even though this is from a paintball site, the interresting part (for your problem) is near the bottom...

Thanks Ribbonstone, that is kinda what I suspected.  The real odd thing is that the gun only equalizes a little, meaning if I leave it for a week it is no worse than overnight.  May pull the regulator apart and try to track down some replacement o-rings. a no-name brand regulator, so finding a kit is probably impossible.  Wonder if normal hardware store o-rings would handle the pressure?  I think to order the good ones from McMaster Carr you need to order quite a few at a time.  Huhm, I'm stumped...gonna tear into it all again today, I have some other oddness that I want to tackle on the same gun.  Thanks again!

I'll have to figure out what rings this thing takes.  I think I got an "Air China" regulator, it works ok except for the spikey first shot.  I have plans to do some work on the gun this weekend, assuming it warms up out in my garage a little.  I guess I can live with an odd first shot, would just like to know for sure what's causing it.
