how and where do you locate it. I have a suet cage in my yard but I never see birds eating at it. Its out away from buildings...could it be to low to the ground.(its about 5ft. from ground on a hanger) should i put it on a tree? please advise what works best for you?

Broken up pieces of stale bread work good for me.
Popcorn works good too.
Sometimes it takes awhile for the birds to realize you've got some type of feeder out there, so be patient.

I have my suet cages hanging off of a tree at the back of my yard. I took a length of heavy gauge wire, wrapped it around the trunk of the tree about 4 feet off the ground, then I hung the suet cages from the wire using the metal clips that came with the cage. I found out that if I didn't use the wire the squirrels would chew through whatever was holding the cages up.
I get starlings stopping by all the time for lunch and dinner :)
Sometimes, after the suet is gone and I rebait, it takes the birds a day or two to discover there's more food there. You could also put out a "high visibility" bait on the ground just to get them to come into the area and discover the suet. One time I took a box of ritz crackers that had gone stale and I broke em up and tossed em on the lawn for the birds. Well, I got birds alright, but I was amazed that it was almost all starlings,,, guess they like ritz crackers.
