: Found a nice spot for hunting Jacks!

My work schedule has been changed to 10 hours a day for the next 3-4 months because a few guys are out on injuries. As a result, I was given the option of taking 2 half hour lunches or 1 hour long lunch. I took the hour  :)   I work graveyard so there's really no one around but me and a few drivers.

While on my lunchbreak one night I left work to go out and explore  a spot behind the plant.  It's actually a fairly large piece of property with trails, shoreline and lots of scrub and wooded areas. I explored it for a couple nights in a row and found a HUGE clearing. When I shined my light to take a look around all I saw was little glowing blue green balls. LOTS of little glowing blue green balls!!! Upon closer inspection they turned out to be Jack Rabbits!!! WOO HOO!!! Found a gold mine!

The next day I talked to the land manager and asked if it would be OK to take a few. He told me "REALLY??? GO AHEAD!!! They're destroying lots of the vegetation. We're getting tired of having to replant all the time! But it has to be descrete. ONLY at night when no one's around and you GOTTA get rid of your kills!"   "No Problem" I say!

So for the past 5 nights or so I've take at MINIMUM 3 jacks in just under an hour. Quite a few opossum too!  Using a tuned Quest 800 with a TechForce 2-7x32 AO scope or my Talon SS .22 .

I've never hunted rabbits. Only snared em. But after doing it for the past few nights, I have a GREATER appreciation for what Jeff and Ed do!!! These guys are FAST!!! They spook REALLY easily, especially when I put the light on em! But I have found that when I use the Green Filter on my light, they don't spook as easily!

Hopefully next week I'll start bringing my camera and taking pictures of my quarry. I gotta get a set of red lens glasses though. I tried taking a flash picture the other night, but it screwed my night vision up for a half hour!

Anyway...That's my hunting story for the week!

Move it for ya :)

Sounds like you hit the jackpot for sure.... That's terrific... I 'm definitely looking forward to some pics of those giant rabbits. Sure wish I had jack rabbits in my neck of the woods.....
