: Hand pumping

I have been looking at the DISC because of its ease of pumping to 2000 PSI. I have also been following the post and see some of the issues. I'm a target shooter so I can shoot a lot from time to time . How much harder is it to get the extra 800 PSI that a air arms rifle would take to fill. I'm on the high side of 50 in good shape but who knows what the future holds. Tanks are out of the question. Marvin

Not sure which Air Arms gun you want to compare it to, but pumping isn't just a question of pressure, it's also a question of volume.

all measurements in cubic centimeters
Air Arms S200 122
Air Arms S400/410 carbine 180
Air Arms S400/410 standard 200
Air Arms S400/410 extra 220

I don't know the volume in the Disco, but suspect it's pretty small, maybe 130 or less?  I hand pumped my TalonSS which had a 490cc tank and a 3000psi fill pressure, it was a bear, but got a fair amount of shots.  I hand pump my Career 707II with a 400cc tank and it is also a bit of a bear.  The trick is to not shoot the gun empty.  If your "good shots" range is between 2100-3000 psi, don't shoot it past 2100psi.  Topping off most of these guns isn't bad at all, one thing that funny enough helps is a little weight on your bones.  If you are a small sized person in the 130 pound range, you might have trouble pumping purely for the fact that the pumps get harder to pump as pressure increases, this is where being able to "put your weight into it" helps.  I'm 36, smoke, slightly overweight at 6feet and 230 pounds, and I don't own a tank.  I usually take my time and pump all of my guns full prior to any shooting excursion, then shoot them in there optimum range, then maybe top off once per session.  The B51 I just ordered from Big Ed should get 50 or so "good shots" from a 2100psi fill in the 850fps range with a Heavy 10.5grain pellet...pretty good in my book:)  The B51 has a 196cc tube, so pumping it back up wont be bad at all:)

Hope this helps,

It would have to be the S 200 but I need to research it more and any info you have I would apciate. The 100 pump 2000 PSI had me as well as the price but it seams to be so hit and miss with accuracy and I will be using it for target shooting. I have a RWS 46 under lever that is very accurate and I would like a PCP to be as good as it. Do you have any idea what the amount of pumping would be with the S 200. Tom Gaylord said once the DISC was up it averaged about a pump per shot . Marvin

I've never pumped an S200, but I've shot one quite a bit:)  Friend of mine had one and it was a really nice gun, definately going to be a cut above the Disco price point gun.  With such a small air cylinder I would guess they would be real easy to pump full, and if you keep it as a 12fpe gun your shot count will be "ok"....smaller resivoir, less air, less shots.  The S200 has been compared as the "R7 of PCP's", and I would have to agree, they are real sweet guns...and they make a 10 shot magazine option also if you end up wanting a repeater.  There's also the old style 12fpe Air Arms S400C to consider for (I think) about the same price as the S200, a slightly bigger resivoir, more air, more shots, more pumping:)  I think Pyramid has a few of these in stock, but haven't tried ordering one to find out.  I think the S400/410 have Lothar Walther barrels on them, whereas the S200 has the CZ barrel.  I owned a Tau-200 match rifle which is what the S200 is based on and I'll say one thing, THAT was an accurate gun.  The LW barrel is also regarded as one of the best airgun barrels around, so either of these guns will probably shoot better than the shooter.  Me personally having shot the S200 quite a bit, and having shot the S410 Classic quite a bit also (older brother of the 400C), it would be tough to pick between the two.....I have a love affair with the CZ guns though, so I may go with the S200 personally..., but that's just me:)

Good luck!
