: New cfx mystery....
: August 28, 2006, 02:47:39 PM
This is my second cfx and I noticed something very strange. After installing one of CDT's triggers on my cfx, I fired my first shot at a paper target and smoke came out pretty thick. Maybe I aimed it near dark objects so my cfx looked like it was shooting out alot of smoke :0 ?  I did notice smoke from my first cfx also but this time I saw smoke coming out of the breech too. Remembering a tip to see if my seal was leaking from some online forum that I cant remember, I put pieces of tissue near the rear sight and sure enough, air and smoke was coming out of my breech as I pulled my trigger. Is it difficult to replace seals in my cfx? Or should I send it to gamo and have them do it? I cant return this cfx because this was their last one so I guess I have to fix it myself or send it to gamo. Any advice would be great.

If Gamo will repair it for free, then have them fix it by all means. But if they will not repair it then send it to CDT for seal replacement.

How much does it normally cost for shipping my rifle to them?

If you're sending it to Gamo for repairs, they want $10 for shipping and handling to return it, plus whatever it costs to get it to them in the first place.  You would need to check with UPS/FedEx/USPS to see what the cost is from you to Florida.  If you decide to send it to CharlieDaTuna, same deal.  I sent mine from Washington State to Charlie, UPS 3 day, cost me $36.  Bear in mind, Gamo has a 4 to 6 WEEK turnaround time on repairs.  Even though the busted main spring in my CFX was under warranty, I went ahead and sent it to Bob.  Turn around time, 1 week and 1 day, it'll be here tomorrow.  That's almost worth the $150 all by itself.  Actually $180, since I included extra for expedited return shipping.  I feel like a kid at Christmas tonight, can hardly wait for my gun to get here tomorrow.  By all accounts, a Tuna tune defies description, guess tomorrow will tell.  Good luck, and hope this helps.

I just got mine back from Charlie today.  Feels totally different, but wouldn't you know it, wind's blowing 10 to 20 mph, damn it!  I can't keep it inside 1 inche at 10 yards, never mind trying to do any serious accuracy testing.  Oh well, tomorrow's supposed to be better.  But I may still set up a 10 yard target in my shop tonight...  Good luck with your CFX, yes, it will feel like a totally different rifle when you get it back.  And if you haven't installed one already, have him put a new GRT trigger in it while he has it.
