: Yellow Beak and Eagle
: crazy4salmon March 30, 2008, 09:13:51 AM
Went salmon fishing this mourning and had one strike. That is my only consolation. Sitting at home watching the Nascar race now and saw a yellow beak land out in the seaweed. Went and grabbed the Whisper, and quietly put it to sleep. The Whisper is dialed in. I didn't even scare the eagle that was out in the tide flats. Went and took a photo of the starling and the eagle gave me a little photo op too. Hope these photos come through I used a little higher setting on my camera.

Sorry I cant figure out how to get my pics resized now I will try latter.:9

Great pics!  Love those bald eagles.  I have a couple of pics of them too when I was up in Lake Placid (upstate NY) a few years ago.

I guess now we know why you picked that nickname :)  So you live right on the ocean?  nice!!

You got me Harry. Salmon fishing is my first love. When they start swimming back into Puget Sound around July. The poor airguns will get a nice cleaning, and the tolling gear and the fly rods will be back in action. Shrimp and ling cod open up the first Saturday in April, but who is counting. ;) With the price of fuel, I just might buy an arsenal of air rifles if I were to give up fishing. The old outboard sure likes its juice. OUCH!
Sorry about the pic cant get it back to normal.

Beautiful fish !! I've never caught, or fished for, salmon but hope to try it someday. They have a good run of salmon up in Pulaski NY, supposedly the fishery there is healthy and plentiful. I may have to try that after I retire.

Are those your kids?

I love fishing too.  I usually go out on the LI sound or the Jersey shore for flounder, fluke and bluefish.  I love the fight of the bluefish and I always try and eat them fresh the same day I catch them.  I don't like it as much after it's been in the freezer, especially Blues - they don't taste the same and the meat loses that nice white color and freshness.

you said it there is nothing like eating your fish as soon as they come out of the water

Yep, those are my boys. Dane is 9, and Brock is 7. Talk about a memorable time with my boys. They still mention that day and cant wait to try and duplicate this year. Trust me fishing on the Puget Sound is not that great. Every once and a while the planets align. We actually released four other fish and lost several others. All of those fish were caught on 7' medium weight spinning rods with ten pound test. The barbless hooks suck for the kids, it is hard for my 7 year old to keep a tight line on a silver salmon going nuts.  Lots of tears on a few lost fish. I guess I still cry about losing fish from time to time. The big ones always get away.:(

I agree on eating your fish fresh. Even salmon don't taste as good after they have been frozen. After a day fishing like that you don't have much choice, you have to freeze some. My neighbors eat well from time to time. Maybe that is why they put up with the air rifle so well. I do like to smoke some of my fish, and they turn out pretty tasty even after the freezer. How big do the bluefish get and are they like a small tuna?
