: How's it shoulder, and how's the balance?

The cheek looks a little low for that scope, or is that an optical delusion?Withit feeling good and shooting well, will you KEEP it? (http://airgunhome.com/agforum/images/smiles/lmao.gif)

LOL , Not with the fat cheeks I got to go on it . hehe. It lines up pretty good. Balance point is right in front of the trigger guard at the gauge . Just about where I like it. Feels a 100% better than that little factory stock without a cheek piece . kirby
: Agree that Crosman wood is undersize.

Sorta wierd that the chinese sell stocks with a 15" l.o.p. for kids and Crosman sells stocks with a l.o.p. of13" for adults . . . (http://airgunhome.com/agforum/images/smiles/huh.gif)

Have you ever measured the LOP on the Crosman plastic skeleton stock? It's up somewhere around 16"!!! Almost like shooting a BAM50 without chopping an inch off the butt:)
Kirby that Boyd's stock looks fantastic!

Thanks Dan ; It took quite a bit of shaping to get it into shape. I think Boyds got them a couple of those angry beavers from Richards Microfit to go to work for them . Looked like that's what they used to chew out the stock. I started with some files , a dremel tool with sanding drum and some 100 grit on a palm sander and finished about 3 hours later with some medium steel wool . Back when I was putting together a few 10/22's I finished 3 or 4 of these thumbholes ;and all they needed then was final sanding. Maybe somebody should tell them they are supposed to change out the blades in that duplicator every once in while . LOL . Those plastic Crosman buttstocks are made for giants . I've got long arms but they are way too long for me. kirby
: Hadn't noticed the plastic was that long before

I bet youngerkids think that 16" l.o.p. is just awesome (http://airgunhome.com/agforum/images/smiles/go%20crazy.gif)

BTW, Dave - you gonna try it out for ustomorrow and let us know how the wood improves yourgroups?
: Yep,

I'll be at the range tomorrow and I'll see if I can knock down a few targets with her . She was built to shoot hunter F/T. We'll see. kirby
: Results and pics would be great.

Still not sure if the Discovery is my flavor, butlooking atputting a 2260 together running on low pressure to see how it does. Setting it up for co2 for several dozen shots at 12ftlbs sure does sound intriguingalso . . .

and anyone else that's interested . LOL. I put a couple hundred JSB's down the the barrel of the Disco today . Both from the F/T sitting position and from the bench. I wished I'd taken some other pellets to try, because the results I had weren't worth a picture IMO. Most of my shooting was at thirty yards with some at fifty-five. It seemed my POI would move on me; I'd get a couple pellets within a pellet size apart maybe three in a 1/2" group and then the next two would be high left or low right , then back in the group. Average group was 3/4"-1" at 30 yards , OK for hunting I guess, But I'd like about half that . The longer distance was about 2"-3 1/2" , I could most likely consistently hit a softball at fifty-five yards . I'm going to play around with some heavier pellets (kodiaks) and may put the stronger spring back in it. I have a couple of Crosman .177 barrels , I may change the barrel first and see if it groups any better. If not ; I'll either order a .22 barrel and bolt and set it up for a hunting rifle or put it on the market and concentrate on my Airarms rifles. I think I've been spoiled with the AA's. My Classic in the new target stock was stacking them at 30 and shot a 10 shot 1/2" group from the bench off a single front bag at 55 yards except for 2 wind induced fliers. BTW, My friend , Jon shot this group while I was struggling with the Disco. kirby
David, I think I read somewhere, that some of the barrels, got away without a finished crown. May want to take the front site off and have a look.
Mike
: Checked the crown
: kirby999April 06, 2008, 02:38:51 PM
I had the front sight off already today checking the crown. It looked OK . It's actually is a deeper crown than what usually comes on Crosman barrels. So; I changed the barrel after I touched up the crown on the 1760 barrel with a cone shape dremel grinding stone, using a light touch with the fingers , spinning slowly While I was at it , I changed the scope to a 4x16x40 BSA mildot scope and some lower rings . I took it out to the garage to check it out on my 19 foot indoor range . I figured 6 meters will at least give me some idea what it's going to do . As luck would have it I left my favorite pellets (JSB's) inside and had to use some of the 20-25 tins of different pellets (mostly wadcutters ) on my make shift bench. I found a tin of Superdomes and thought I'd give them a try. I know from shooting at my indoor range , aiming at the center of a Gamo target , the POI should be around the bottom 4 ring when the rifle is sighted in around 30yards . I rested the Disco on my cheap plastic front rest and sent one down range. I looked and couldn't believe it , it took out the 4 in the bottom 4 ring , windage perfect , four more made a single pellet size hole . Now were talking !! I know it's not a great indication what it'll do at long range , but if it won't shoot up close , you can forget it out farther . I decided to try some off hand a little and shot the next 5 shots using the bottom third mildot as my aiming point and took out the 10 ring with a ragged hole . This new stock is sweet to shoot offhand . I'll try some outside tomorrow and let you know how it does. kirby
