: Mendoza interchangeable barrel rifle
: longislandhunter August 31, 2006, 12:14:04 PM
The other day I was looking at some air guns in the local gun store and the guy had a Mendoza rifle that came with 2 barrels.  One barrel was .177 and the other was .22 caliber.  He showed me how easy it was to change from one barrel to the other, and I was just wondering if anyone has had any personal experience with these rifles, and if so what you think of them.  I really liked the feel of the rifle, and might consider purchasing it in the future, but I thought it prudent to get some feeback on the gun from others first. Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.  Thansk.

Gene

It looks like that the above link is the cheapest price I have seen.  Also at Cabela's there is more info. It is made by RWS or at least they claim it..:)

A nice short video on the Mendoza Air Rifle RM 2003 Dual Caliber is here:

Yeah Gene, that was the one I was looking at.  I also liked the sights on the gun. Liked them so much  that if I were to buy it I don't think I'd put a scope on it.  The gun just felt good, came right up to target well, shouldered comfortably, the stock was beautiful (the thing that first caught my eye), and I just liked the overall look of the gun.

I don't have any specific experience with that rifle, but I do know from my general experience in life that
when you try to make something do more than one thing well, usually neither of them end up particularly good.

I looked at that rifle and was strongly considering it, but ultimately I figured that it would be better to get a dedicated rifle is .22 and another in .177.

If I had a big collection I might want one though, just because it seems like a neat thing to play around with.

I also would probably be more interested if could do .177, .20 and .22.

I think you have hit the nail on the head, I've been having the same thoughts about the rifle.  Since the money I'm trying to save up for a new rifle will only be enough for 1 gun I think I'll leave the Mendosa for another time and keep my eyes trained on the Beeman R9 goldfinger for now.

Ya I kinda like the idea of a dedicated rifle also. The only caliber I am missing is the .20 caliber in my collection. Hopefully I will have that resolved this next month.

My only concern about the Mendoza would be accuracy and quality of parts. It would of been great if they had offered all three calibers. I may have purchased it just for collection sake...:)

I want to move in with Jeff so I can go to the Duck Farm every day.... he he he he

I'm intrigued by the gun.  It'd be nice to have the availability of two calibers for plinking and hunting.  The video on Cabela's sight is good stuff to see, but I wonder how many times he had to shoot to get the group they show there.

I only have one experience with a Mendoza and it wasn't good.  I had a Crosman/Mendoza RM577 and it broke within 500 shots.  Even though this rifle is still for sale at many retailers, it is discontinued and no parts or services are available.  That burned me on the Mendoza name and they'll have to work hard to earn my business again.

That said, if there was an easy way to swap barrels on my RWS to make it a dual caliber rifle, I'd be buying the option in a heart beat.

don't know what the availability through the distributor {rws} is now that the headquarter swapping occured though . . . :o
