Can someone please, for the love of God, explain this to me?
I have tried 15 different kinds of pellets in my Whisper so far. The only pellets I can get to group at 20 yards are Gamo Match and RWS Meisterkugeln. I intend on trying a few others still but I'm not having good luck. I've started throwing the bad grouping tins into the garbage...
When I sight the gun in at 20 yards, I can get the Game Match and RWS Meisters to group about the size of a quarter (the two groups are above and below each other but are still CENTERED). When I shoot Gamo Hunters or any other "sharply pointed pellet", they all hit between 5 and 6 inches to the RIGHT. They group, not very well, but WHY ARE THEY ALL HITTING FIVE INCHES TO THE RIGHT????
I can understand why different weight pellets would strike the target higher or lower, but why the hell would they be hitting 5 inches to the right at 20 yards?

good question, but at the least you can be thankful they are at least semi-grouping to the right.
my whisper seems to hate everything but crosman premier hollow points. nothing, and I mean NOTHING else will even group. I even bought some JSB predators on the recomendation of about a dozen people here, and at fifty feet I made a 4 inch circle of mess, whereas the crosmans were at less than a quarter. the predators fit pretty loose too, and the crosmans fit fairly tight.
I know everyone else here has had fantastic luck with them, so I don't doubt that they may be great stuff, but for me, in my rifle, they are crap. it just seems to be one of those deals where each rifle has its own attitude. this might be what is going on with you.
I am thinking a professional tune up may lessen my particular problems.....but then after a tune you have to go through the while guessing game again of what works.
I hate to say it, but you may be stuck with one particular pellet you can use just like I am.

I guess I can stick with one pellet. I still dont understand the physics behind what's going on with them flying off to the right...

I have a similar problem Rez, my shadow so far only likes crosman hp's, meisterkugeln's, and bsa wolverines (which are jsb exacts 8.4gr) Superdomes and ALL pointed are terrible...the bsa's are what I use to hunt anything with, they retain alot of energy downfield...I think that the skirt diameters have a lot to do with the physics part of it, remember we're shooting a projectile that is spun by the rifling in the barrel, so different pellets are going to spin differently despite weight and head type..just because they fit differently in your bore...If anyone else has some feedback I'm sure they'll join in!!

Hey Jason and others,
All pellet rifles have different bore diameters and different rifling, they also have different chamber diameters. This makes the selection of pellets difficult to say the very least.
Selecting the proper pellet for your air gun, will require finding the pellet that makes the tightest group, and then adjusting the sights or the scope to these new pellets.
Every style of pellet will, or may shoot to a different point, Domed pellets seem to shoot best at longer distances, as they have the least deflection , caused by the pellet cutting through the air.
I would purchase a "Pellet Sampler" from Straight Shooters, and carefully test them from a secure rest, to find the best grouping pellet. http://straightshooters.com/straightshooters/sssampler.html (http://straightshooters.com/straightshooters/sssampler.html)
Remember to check your screws for tightness, both on the rifle and the scope and mounts !

Do you have other springers that shoot well? If you are new to springers, then technique is extremely important. After nine months, I am still acquiring the skills necessary for shooting springers effectively. Make sure the scope and mounts are not moving. The whisper has a lot of recoil. Good luck.

As long as a brand of pellets group....it's OK. Different brands are made differently...maybe the weight of each pellet is not exactly right. I also have a Whisper....and different pellets do group at another spots...but no flyers. Just shoot more to see which one group best and use that one exclusively. Btw....go to your gabage can and retrieve those tins of pellets and send them to me. :p Jeeze, you have 15 brands of pellets to try?.....Where I live....I only have about 7 brands.
