: Talon SS or Condor
: Jaymo April 13, 2008, 03:48:09 PM
I'm thinking of buying a new shooter with some of my tax money. It's narrowed down to a new powder burner, or a new PCP. I can't decide between a new Condor or a new Talon SS. The condor is a good bit more powerful. The Talon SS is much quieter. Help.

I have the Talon SS got it because you can make into all of the formats that AirForce carries it is an amazing gun i have 73 rats on her so far she is a rat killing machine! I recommend the gun to anyone looking for a pcp. If you live in MD you can come shoot mine to try it out, no problem.

If you want the extra power you can buy the condor and then buy a shroud for it.  Even though it is expensive initially, it is well worth every penny.  Not only do you have close to the power of a .22, you have an EXTREMELY quiet rifle.  My condor on full power with 28 gr. eun jins is so quiet you can't hear it 50 feet away, just the impact of the pellet is about all you hear.  If you don't want to spend the extra money on the shroud the talon ss would be a better option.

I personally like the SS with 12" and 24" barrels.  The chrony strings from the hot Condor valve have never been too inspiring to me since they just start and drop from the first shot.  The Talon valve seems to meter air a little more efficiently.  Besides, if I want 100FPE I'll get a .22LR.  I had my .22 SS set up with a 24" barrel and got a fairly consistant 42-44 fpe with Kodiaks for a decent shot count.  DaveD's brother bought mine and I am sure he will tell you that it shoots a pretty flat curve:)  The 12" barrel is good for when you want to be more discreet.

Pretty flat curve, the man says :-)!  That thing is SWEET, I should have kept Dan's and let my bro have mine.  'Course, now I have two, so I can have a hammer AND a quiet sniper at the same time.  Ditto on everything Dan said, I'd go SS all the way.  Do the math, the Condor is rated at something like 62 fpe, that's 1150 fps with a .22 Kodiak.  And that's skating on the edge of velocity induced problems.  I have both a 24" barrel and a custom valve for one of my Talons, I can easily duplicate and even exceed Condor performance.  But why?  Kodiaks and Eun Jins are both pretty good up to around 1000 fps, but the accuracy starts suffering when the velocity goes beyond that.  Personally, the Condor should only be offered in .25 IMHO, anything less and you're just throwing away power.  Good luck, and hope that helps.  Later.

What kind of FPE can I get from a Talon SS in .22 cal?

So now it's between a Talon SS and a Dixie Gun Works 20x20 percussion Howda pistol. Very tough choice.

Stock valve and 12" barrel, you should be able to get about 30 fpe, that's a Kodiak doing 800 fpe.  Jeff and Ed have both taken LOTS of game with far less power :-).  Later.
