First off, greetings to all - this is my first post here, but I've been lurking for a while now.  A few weeks ago I decided to get a pellet rifle (haven't owned one since I was a teen - more than 15 years ago).  I didn't know jack about any of this stuff, only that I had tons of fun shooting my daisy pump when I was a kid.  I went to wally world, got a 50 dollar pump gun and started shooting again.  It totally sucked and wasn't as fun as I remembered it was and hoped it to be again.  My expectations weren't that high since over the past few years I've done tons of shooting in the Marines but I knew I was missing something.  I returned the rifle and started researching the web and saw a lot of information about Gamos that sparked my interest.  That led me here.

I found a local sporting goods store that stocked a few Gamos; the Recon, the Big Cat and the Varmint Hunter.  They were all priced about 30.00 below internet.  Long story short, I started with the Big Cat, returned it after a few days and went home with the Varmint Hunter.  Man, I love this thing and for under 200 bucks it's a lot of bang for my buck.  I'm shooting at mostly 20-30 yard distances and so far it's been more than enough.  My GRT-III is en route as I type and I can't wait for it.  

I just wanted to thank everyone here for all the great information - it helped me make a purchase I'm very happy with.  Hopefully over time I'll learn more and more about these springers to where I can begin sharing information and help others out as well.  

I have one question about muzzle brakes.  I'd love to get one but from what I've seen non of the ones currently being sold are made to fit the polymer fluted barrels of the newer Gamos.  Does anyone here have any suggestions?  A friend of mine does have a lathe and I'm thinking of fabbing one up myself if I can't just order one right off the bat.  I took a rough measurement using a tape measure and it looks like the OD of the barrel is around 0.75", but I'm not 100% on that since I don't have a caliper.  Would any of you know the actual OD of that barrel?  Thanks and keep it up!

Thanks for the welcome!  I haven't really used her since placing the order for the GRT-III (the stock trigger drives me nuts) but it should be in any day now.  Time for me to head out and grab a torx set.  I did notice the instructions say to remove the two screws up front and one in the rear behind the trigger.  My rifle looks like there's 2 holding the trigger guard in place.  Are those the other screws I need to remove?

Actually the one at the Rear of the trigger guard is one to remove. THe other 3 are at the fore end of the stock.

Can you help clarify?  I see the obvious 2 screws up towards the front of the stock (1 & 2), and see 2 more at the trigger guard area (3 & 4).  The two at the trigger guard look like they may be holding the tg in place and maybe the stock as well.  Do I remove both those screws at the tg or just one of them?  Thanks!

You need to remove screws 1, 2, & 3 .  Screw 4 is just what holds the trigger guard to the stock.

The fluted barrels can be fitted with a muzzlebrakeand as stated above im sure Gene can work something nice up..I have a CFX MB on order from him and I cant wait to see his work first hand..

Wow nice!  What's the OD on that one; about 1.5"?
