: RWS 94 in .177 or .22?
: Gil April 21, 2008, 03:21:09 PM
Planning on buying an RWS 94 I will be using it mostly for hunting. I hear that a .22 is the best pellet for the job. I was wondering if it was as accurate as the .177 and if the .22 can go out to the same effective range, if not further.

Depends on what you're hunting.. I hunt mostly rabbits, squirrels and woodchucks and the .22 is my main hunting caliber, although the .177 is also very capable of taking small game. My .177 guns do get time in the woods and they've taken many a rabbit or squirrel out to 40 yards. However like I said, I do most of my small game hunting with a .22

As for accuracy,,, yes,, the .22 can be just as accurate as a .177 it's trajectory just has more of an arc due to the lower FPS / heavier weight pellets. How accurate it is of course depends on the rifle and the shooter.

As for effective range,,,,, I generally hunt with a 40 yard or less range limit, a personal choice on my part, and my .177 and .22 rifles have no problems taking out small game out to that range....

thanks for the info. The .22 will have more hitting power at 40 yards than the .177 due to its heavier weight, even though its traveling at a slower velocity right?

That is correct..

Hey Gil,If you click on the GTA Library and scroll down to the Straight Shooters AirGun Library and click on : Tests Results and There take on Air Guns . Check the RWS 34 which I think is basically the same as the 94. You can click on: Velocity tests results. There you will be able to see the energy differences between .177 and .22 .

As said each cal. will do the job great and I also hunt with both. Once the right pellet is found and you got her zero'd in it's just a matter of the shooter putting it in the K-zone. Ed

I took a look at the RWS 34 in the straightshooters section. Are you sure that the 34 and 94 are basically the same guns? From what ive heard of people chronoing the 94 it shoots about 970FPS with average weight .177 pellets. The highest with the 34 was almost 900 and that was probably with light pellets.

EDIT: The 34 is made by Diana and the 94 is made by Cometa.
