I cut wood from walnut and kept same design as oringinal grip,no thumb rest or finger grooves as i wanted a flat area to carve,it was fun to do,usually i carve walking sticks, lol. Now i must make and carve the front forearm ,and maybe take some photography lessons.

Hey Paul, Tim here! Im a carpenter too, (self proclaimed) I do custom cabinets&stair cases ect. I have made some grips & stocks as well. (as of late I have made some "boxes" for my friends) LOL! You on the other hand are a true ARTIST! Your grips remind me of the work my late father was capable of. I truly love the insperation you provide to me with those pics. Im much more in my element slapping a deck together, or framing a house. In your pic I noticed the grain was horizontal (first side view) Did you do that to make it easeyer to carve? In the last pic. it looks like the rear of the grip is vertagle (up& down) Geezze I cant spell! Is it laminated? Walnut is a special wood! When I had my saw mill I only cut one small tree, my Dad used most of the wood to build a project for my Mom. Nice Post Paul! Tim.

My next project is to make the forearm ,lol. The grain direction, was not done in any way except ,i like the looks ,in first pic. it makes no differance in carving with high speed, and the back and front of grips are same way i carve beards in walking sticks in old fellas. The grip is solid walnut,it is as you know hard and dense,so it will hold detail with out fuzzying up. Soon i will post pixs of a rattlesnake and and a eagle head ,walking stick, maybe i,ll put it in my photo album. Thanks for comments, but what i really need is to learn how to take pix. the pix on pc are just not that good, no fine detail.
