This is the chop job on the Gamo Barrel...Took a little
longer to clean the CROWN I do want to hit what I
aim at...The scope was for show, I have a lighter one
to hunt with. The thing now likes Predators go Figure.
Best groups in a dime (BIRDS HEAD hehe).
Gene is making a nose for it...Bob sent the trigger this
week, That made me smile..Big time!

Hey, guys, I always had wondered how a S1K with short short barrel would perform..:) Nice group. I have an S1K with a 10" L/W choked .177 barrel and it shoots pretty good. It took me some getting used to at first but with the right scope it can stack lead at 30 yards. Only problem is it is harder to cock..:)

yw, I couldnt see it with a 12x leapers scope LOL so I had to do something

The Simple truth ...Hacksaw+Straight edge. Then File ( Easy now) OK now its straight.
The Crown Brass( #8) bolt Phillips..Cordless drill.** Now you have to be lined up Right!
Ok now you have the *(* then the polishing this takes time and you want it right.
Someone said try TOOTHPASTE ( I'M Game ..it does work.) but put something in the barrel
to keep the junk out. when your done..clean and check with a Q TIP. For burrs..those are a sign
to polish more. Bingo. At first I was worried I was not going to get groups and would have to
start over but the stars must have lined up right for me. There are some good post on this forum for all kindes
of stuff. I would say "READ READ READ" To all the Newbees. We were new once also
If I was not 99% sure I could do it I would send it to a PRO . WE all hate mistakes!

Yep... ya did it the right way Steve, considering that you don't have a lathe and when doing it that way you usually don't go wrong. Just measure 7 times and cut once... and take your time...lol... Believe me... if you want accuracy, this is the one area that you should not take shortcuts or rush.
You can use course valve grinding compound then fine valve grinding compound also. It cuts faster with excellent clean results and although usually not needed, you can still use a pumice or tooth paste to finish it further if need be. As for the tool, I use a push rod from the old days when they were used in the valve train. Almost perfectly true and extremely hard ball surface. If recessing the cut, I usually make it about 15 degrees and about .075 to .100 deep. Just enough to give the crown good protection.
Oh.... and before you start, push a pellet about in about a half inch into the muzzle head first with the skirt facing out. Keeps the crud from getting down into the shoot chute.
I just reworked and put on a 24 inch barrel and did a crown job on my AS-2250. Carried it on over to Gene's and we (he) set up one of my Golden Antler scopes up on it and dialed it in and it stacks them at 20 yards and clover leafs at 35 yards dead center. Talk about accurate. For being cross eyed, that Gene can sure shoot.

i am reading these post because i am going to attempt an axe job this weekend. i keep reading post about "polishing".....polish what?...the crown? why does it need to be polished?....sorry for the stupid questions but i don't want to waste a $180 barrel. thanx.

Hey Big Dog. We mean "THE CROWN" It is good to ask Questions "No worries"
It is kinda like you want nothing to grab the edge of a pellet to pull it off to one
side or the other. Did you checkout the crown trick just own the page..?
You can get the stuff to polish at an auto parts store. I just did not want to go to
Town ( OH! it all of 7 minutes).
2 KEYS 1: 90% ( Straight cut) 2: EVEN Crown (bevels Same all the way around)
