After the first two shooting tables I wanted to build something that had more versatility to it. I mean a way to sit and point out with rifle at least 30 degrees in either direction. So I started thinking of a simple way to do this and still have a solid base to rest my air rifle fore stockon. Most of the shooting benches I have seen and have the fore stock rest is not that solid. Making for more movement when shooting at targets. The sand bags on the flat table seem to work great but the problem with that is targets are not always the same height or in the same straight out position. At times when I shoot I will see a nutter or crackel off to the side and in order to shoot and aim I have to readjust chair and position. Well I think I have solved this problem..:) With just simple hardware I made a shooting table that I can raise and lower the air rifle while holding it and also move from left to right. I just bought a $9.00 ball bearing lazy susan, mounted to the top of table and cut a piece of wood just a 1/4" larger than the lazy susan. Mounted it to the top of lazy suzan. Bored a 1 1/2" hole through the center of it all. The only other cost was something I found at the hardware store which is like a pipe holder. Mounted that to the square piece of wood and made up the rest with PVC pipe and fitting with a little bit of water pipe insulation to lay the for stock of gun on..:) Anyway it was a fun project and it works great. Oh and this bench will work for both lefties and righties..:)
Here are a couple pics..:)

Nice design Gene, looks like it will work great. I'm hoping that I can build mine soon, still in the planning stages.

Your the MAN Gene,
I love your last bench, but this is the NEW and improved model !
You are just so creative !, and have encouraged me to build one like this one ! it handles all the problems I have encountered in the past... :-)
Thanks for sharing this Wonder with us all ..

Very clever for you age, sir. I have a portable table that would work well with and may give it a try. Come to think of it, this would probably also work very well as a weather-resistant mod to Chuckie's bench -- particularly since my intent is to leave the thing outside most of the year. I seem to want something at home that I can just grab a gun and go to with no set up time. And maybe some of those pink flamingos on a wire legs set up down range to shoot at! After all, if I am going to be the Mr. "Oh, THAT guy!" in my neighborhood, I should do it with a certain style, don't you think?

Nice bench Gene , I'm going to have to get me a set of those legs and throw me something together . Will it still fold? Hey , we could all sit around that one , play some 5 card ,and have an adult beverage .hehe Double duty ,or dual purpose . As long as I can sit facing the door. LOL kirby

Hey Tom, I am fortunate to be able to see and still use my hands..:) Personally I do not care what any of my neighbors think as long as they do not call the cops on me... hehe I had some extra time yesterday late and already had the pieces to put that table together. It is universal..:) Like David said...:) My back deck is high enough so I just slide them under the deck and pull them out when I want to use them. And yes David the legs fold up and you can stow it in your truck or car trunk..:) Gene

Looks great Gene!
Quick question, what keeps the rest at different elevations? Got a setscrew or something holding it down/up? When I bought my shooting bench a few months ago the first thing I took off was the rest, it was such a poor design it wasn't even usable. I'm now using the bench with sandbags, and you can adjust the aft bag for elevation...but not very much. I need to come up with something better. Funny because I have this beautiful bench in the garage, but I use a camera tripod with a chunk of wood on top to shoot from, partly because I don't want to pull out the bench, and also because of the poor ergonomics it provides.
You solution is about the best I have seen so far, maybe I should sell my bench and come up with something like yours.

Well Dan, when I was down in Columbia this week I stopped by Sprortsman's Warehouse to gaze at what they had left for air rifles. No more good ones left...:( But I did finally manage to buy the last two tins of Wolverines .177 pellets that Peak always has an endless supply of..:)
I had a chance to look at your table there and I really liked it, except the forstock holder. Like you said it was wobbley and difficult to manuver it. I had most of the stuff to put a new table together with but was pondering on how I could make as shooting table that you could have an adjustable stock rest. I machined the white water pipe to fit snug. Snug enough to hold the weight of a air rifle but easy enough to raise and lower. The base is on a metal lazy susan with ball bearings, so you have left to right movement as well. I packed the ball barings with heavy lube and it is snug to move as well..:) As you can see with the one picture where I have the top fixture out of base. I was shooting on it today and it does not wiggle, wobble, or move one bit. In fact if it does not rain tomorrow I am gonna do some targets to put on Kliff's web site.
The only expensive parts were the lazy susan $9.00 and the legs $15.99. The total for the rest was about $13.00.
It folds for easy storage and only weighs about 25 lbs at most.
